The CELLO is the second largest instrument in the string orchestra, followed only by the upright bass. Since the bass is currently not offered in the elementary schools, the CELLO is the largest and lowest sounding instrument offered in the Woodbrook Orchestra!
The cello reads mostly Bass clef because it plays low notes. The cello looks a lot like a violin and viola, but it is much bigger and is played while sitting down.
Fun Fact: The oldest cello that still exists was built by Andrea Amati sometime between 1538-1560 and is known as "The King"
The CELLO is a big instrument. It plays low notes and has a full, deep tone.
