EDCO Youth Alternative
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAM
OUR MISSION
The mission of EDCO Youth Alternative is to educate young people and guide them toward their goals of a high school diploma and a successful step beyond graduation. We seek to create a diverse community and supportive environment that empowers students to work through difficulties, learn academic and life skills, and become advocates for a promising future.
EDCO, along with Greater Egleston High School and Boston Day & Evening Academy, was awarded an EdVestors Seed Fund Grant to support the program and staff development around real-world learning opportunities for students, as a way to explore passions and career interests, build skills and earn high school credits while doing so.
Samira, class of 2017, has a deep love and passion for food and social justice.
While at EDCO, Samira participated in the Future Chefs afterschool culinary program and experienced work-based learning that developed skills that complemented her classroom lessons.
Her participation at EDCO and Future Chefs, along with her employment at a cafe while in high school, set the stage for her successful transition.
Following graduation, Samira began work at The Farm School in New Hampshire, a residential training program in sustainable agriculture.
