Concert Band is Back
By Aria LeRoux
F.E. Madill is proud to announce the return of Concert Band for another exciting year. Led by Mr. Kyle Prout, the band provides a positive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to express their musical talents and grow as performers. Open to all students, Concert Band is a great opportunity to develop your musical skills, with section leaders available to offer guidance and support along the way.
Mr Prout describes it as “a great opportunity for everybody to come and play some amazing music, get connected with friends and go see some awesome musical experiences.”
Whether you’re a seasoned musician or just starting out, Concert Band invites you to be part of a fun and inspiring family.
Rehearsals take place Mondays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8:00-8:30 a.m. Come out, make some music, and be part of something awesome! Don’t miss your chance to make music and memories this year.
Terry Fox Run Held Last Week
By Alaina Scheurwater
On Thursday, September 25th, staff and students from F.E. Madill participated in the annual Terry Fox Run/Walk to raise awareness and support cancer research. The course was a 5-kilometre loop around town on the Wingham Community Trail, and despite the humidity, it was an enjoyable experience.
A memorial assembly was held before the walk, where students were reminded of Terry's Marathon of Hope and his ultimate goal of running across the country to raise money for cancer research.
Everyone was encouraged to wear stickers in support of someone they know who has cancer, or someone who was taken by cancer. This year's stickers said “I’m finishing it for…” with a blank space underneath for the name(s).
So many people have been affected by cancer in some way, so this was a special day for staff, students, and their families to remember Terry’s inspiring run and an opportunity to show support.
The school raised money by asking for “Toonies for Terry,” and everyone worked towards this common goal of fundraising.
One student shared that she enjoyed the chance to be active and outside, and that it was really nice to see the whole school do it together. Others agree and look forward to continuing to do their part to remember Terry Fox.
Introducing the New Student Council
By Lillian Beyersbergen-Oakes
Dances, festivals, assemblies and any after school events. Guess who plans them? The F. E. Madill Student Council! This year we have a terrific group of students.
Let's start with the people who are in charge, other than our teacher advisors, Ms. Parsons and Ms. Caesar. Our Co-Presidents are Aria LeRoux and Rowan Gaspirc. The Vice Presidents are Adler Shaw & Hayden Jamieson. After those roles is our Secretary and Student Senator Lily Conley.
All of the events that Student Council organizes cost money, and someone has to look after the funds. Elaina Schnurr is our Treasurer, with help from Olivia Van Meeteren.
You might be wondering who gets everyone so excited for the events. It’s none other than our Spirit Reps Taylor Gibson and Brianna McNichol.
Who runs our social media? Who advertises these events? Our amazing Public Relations Tech Professionals Serenity Bourque and Elyse Ireland do. To make sure all the grades are heard and included we have Inclusion Rep Sadie Pennington, who works with our grade reps Olivia Al, Sadie Caldwell and Ryan Dawson.
F.E. Madill is a very sporty school and to help organize all those events are Naomi Campbell and Nora Pennington, our Sports Reps. We also, of course, have our Arts Department, with Lillian Beyersbergen-Oakes and Lily Verbeek helping organize art-related events.
Last, but certainly not least, are the people who are always busy with setting events up. This is the job of our Assembly Reps Lydia Jefferson and Presley Carter. We have our team of photographers to capture all our amazing events: Harlee Power, Qixuan Wu and head photographer Devyn Willie.
Student Council takes a lot of hands to run it and we'd love to see YOU - the townspeople - out at our after school events. Our first one is our upcoming Fall Festival, which is open to the public on the evening of October 23.
Looking Forward to the Fall Festival
By Rowan Gaspirc
F.E. Madill’s student council is proud to announce that the community’s favourite fall event is back. The Fall Festival will be held during the school day for students, and in the evening for the community to join in on the fun.
The event on October 23rd will be full of festivities. This includes inflatables, cotton candy, baked goods, carnival games, friendly competitions, and so much more.
The Fall Festival has historically been a great fundraiser for F.E. Madill’s student council to raise money to give back to the school. It is one of the student council’s favourite events to host and they are so excited to welcome the community to it once again.
This major event takes months of planning from many dedicated students. These student leaders volunteer their time to ensure that this event will be a fun and successful event for the whole community.
Get ready to welcome in the season full of changing leaves, cool mornings, and pumpkin pies with F.E. Madill!
