Graphic Text

Graphic Texts contain several elements that help them to communicate information. It is important that we look at each element to understand the complete message communicated in the text.

Look for:

• Titles - in examining the title, you can get a sense of the overall topic of the text
• Subtitles and Headings - - break the information into sections so you can find the information you are seeking
• Labels -Point out important parts of a graphic
• Pictures - a picture is worth a thousand words - helps to illustrate information that can be difficult or might take a long time to explain
