Unit outlines are one of the most important pieces of information for students to receive regarding the Teaching, Learning, Assessment and Competencies of the units they are studying.
It is vitally important that information contained in the Unit Outline is accurate, coordinated with your moderation/meshing and/or markbook partners and should be approved by your Faculty Leader before being shared with students.
The published Unit Outline may only be varied by the teacher in exceptional circumstances in consultation with the classes concerned and the head of department. Every effort needs to be made to ensure all dates outlined in the Unit Outlines are accurate and adhered to. Watch out for public holidays and long weekends!
Unit outlines include the following information, or links to the information:
Course name
Unit name
Unit value
Date (Semester, Year)
Summary of the content (usually the unit description, unit specific goals, and content descriptions taken directly from the course)
List of Assessment tasks
Assessment criteria (e.g. Knowledge, Understanding and Skills)
Dates on which the assessment tasks are due (for an exam week or speech, or where there are multiple classes across a week, this may be a range)
Weightings of tasks
VET Competencies (For A/T/M/V course with vocational programs)
Training Package qualification name and code (For A/T/M/V course with vocational programs)
School Academic Integrity and Appeals Policies
Achievement standards
Moderation procedures (internal and external)
Meshing procedures where required
Method of unit score calculation
Penalties for late and non-submission of work
Course information, including any course requirements and pre-requisites
Unit outlines must be published in ASC and then provided to students by the end of the second week of semester. Students have access to these documents using their Student Profiles Online. You may also be required to download it and add to a school learning management system or platform.
Here is a Guide to using ACS to generate your Unit Outline online.
Below is an example of an ACS generated Unit Outline. As it is 5 pages in length, it is suggested you open it in a separate tab to view it appropriately.
