Article: Developmental Psychology

Activity: Read the article, then answer the following questions:

1. What is the goal of developmental psychology? 

2. What are the major debates in the field of developmental psychology? Give a brief summary of each debate.

Activity: We will do a jigsaw activity. Everyone will get into groups of four and each member will research one of the following:

• Jean Piaget

• John Bowlby

• Lev Vygotsky

• Mary Ainsworth

Your task is to research their theories and write a summary of them, in particular answering:

1. What they had to say about childhood development.

2. What arguments they made about what is important for developing healthy adults.

3. Anything interesting, unique or contentious about their theories.

We will spend this lesson researching, and have the next lesson too.

We will complete our research from last lesson, and then do the Jigsaw by getting into expert groups to share information. Then you will reconvene into your original group of four to share information again.
