Being a LEARNER in the Library
Being a LEARNER in the Library
By the end of this module, students will have an understanding of the importance of:
using the Library space to support their learning.
I will know what it means to use the Library space to support my learning.
I will have completed the quizzes and case studies and scored 100%.
Why Should I use the Library to Study and Work on Class Tasks and Assignments?
The Library has a wide range of academic materials including textbooks and reference materials which can support various subjects and assignments.
Our Library has designated quiet areas that can help students focus making it easier to concentrate on studying.
There is a Teacher Librarian available every breaktime to help students with finding sources and citing materials.
Group study spaces are available to facilitate collaboration on projects and assignments allowing students to work effectively together.
The Library runs workshops on research skills and referencing. Listen to the daily announcements for when these tutorials are running, or call into the Library and ask the Library staff.
The Library can be a helpful support system for students, helping them succeed academically.
What Does LEARNING behaviour in the Library look like?
Use your school laptop to work on class tasks and assignments. Use the OLIVER button in the digital backpack to search the Library Catalogue to find useful information sources.
Once you have used your school laptop to browse the OLIVER Library Catalogue you then can look for the resource on the book shelves. You can also ask the Librarian for assistance to help find resources that would be useful for your work.
It is important not to be too loud when playing board games and puzzles in the Library so not to disturb other students trying to work on assignments or who might be reading quietly.
So you do not disturb other students using the Library space you should move around the library by walking. Running and kicking or throwing balls is for outside in the playground.
The library has many seating options to read quietly. Students might find the cushioned alcoves, or the breakout area soft chairs are a perfect quiet space to read.
Only sit with the correct amount of people at the tables. Overcrowding makes it difficult to do your work or makes too much noise for the surrounding students trying to work or read.
The Library has a Google site which is full of information to help you with your class tasks and assignments. You can click on the button below to look through the site.
THE LIBRARY IS A SHARED SPACE
That means the Library is a space that is available to be used by ALL members of our school community and it is ALL of our responsibility to use the space appropriately. The Library is a place to work on class tasks, enjoy reading and is also a social space to play board games and complete puzzles. We are all responsible to be considerate to all library users.
