By the end of this module, students will develop an understanding of the importance of:
Lining up Respectfully.
Respecting the physical spaces.
Respecting the Canteen staff and each other.
Students will:
Complete the required Quizzes and Case Studies.
Enter the Canteen quietly. You don't need to be yelling or shouting in this space.
Stand still in line. It makes it very hard for people, if you are waiting to be served but aren't standing in line, to know where to line up.
If you come in with friends and they aren't buying food, they can go and sit down at one of the tables. They don't need to stand in line with you.
Help the Primary students do the right thing by being the role model and demonstrate the right thing to do.
Use your manners. Say "Hello", "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" before placing your order.
Know what you want to buy and be ready when it is your turn.
Make sure you say "Please" and "Thank you".
Keep your voices at a talking volume.
Ball games belong outside.
Sit at the tables appropriately, your bum belongs on the bench not the table.
To avoid bumping into people, walk around the area ad be aware of your surroundings.
Avoiding crowding around the serving window.
When you pick up your lunch order, you are able to jump the main queue and move to the 2nd service window.
Wait patiently until the Canteen staff can serve you.
If you are with friends, ask your friends to wait for you at one of the tables or outside of the canteen. This will avoid congestion at the service window and help the Canteen staff serve more people faster.
The Canteen is a SHARED SPACE. That means that it is a space that is available to be used by ALL members of our school community and it is ALL of our responsibility to keep it clean, tidy and safe for everyone.
As a High School students, when you are in the Canteen area you need to be aware that there will be Primary School students in there too. because of this, you need to learn to moderate your behaviour.
Here are a few reasons why it’s important to moderate your behaviour:
Setting a Good Example: Younger students look up to you. By behaving well, you’re showing them how they should act too. It’s like being a role model!
Safety: Primary school students are smaller and might get hurt more easily. Being careful and considerate helps keep everyone safe.
Respect: Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and respected. By moderating your behavior, you’re showing respect to the younger students and creating a positive environment for everyone.
Learning Environment: A calm and respectful atmosphere helps everyone focus and learn better. Your good behavior contributes to a better learning space for all.
Responsibility: As you get older, you have more responsibility. Part of that is understanding how your actions affect others and making sure you’re contributing positively to the school community.
The Canteen area is not a place for ball games, running around or hide and seek. There are plenty of places around the school where it is appropriate to play these games. Some activities that you could do that would be suitable and RESPECTFUL in the Canteen area include:
Eating and drinking.
Quiet card games.
Catching up on emails or unfinished classwork.
Drawing or writing.
Reading.
Group work.
Chatting with friends.
