Consider the following factors when choosing your sources for an assignment.

- Is the author trying to persuade you?
- Is the information factual or opinion?
- Is more than one side of the discussion presented or are facts presented with a bias?
Authority

- What are the authors qualifications and credentials in the subject?
- Does the author have published articles in scholarly or professional publications?
Reliability

- Where does the information come from?
- Is there a citation list as evidence of where the information was sourced?
- Is the information found in a respected publication?
- Is the information verified in other sources?
Currency

- Is the information current and up-to-date?
- Is the web page updated regularly?
- When was the book published?
Researching
Researching
When researching an assignment you can conduct an internet search plus search the books in the library. Using a variety of sources provides a comprehensive base to your assignment. Information in books is not always as current as information presented in recent scholarly articles, but provides valuable background material to support your research.
Your assignment should endeavour to include information from primary and secondary sources.
Primary sources include:
- diaries.
- autobiographies, biographies.
- manuscripts.
- interviews, speeches.
- oral histories.
- journal articles discussing new findings.
Secondary sources include:
- journal articles discussing/analysing anothers research.
- dictionaries and encyclopedias.
- books that interpret and analyse.
- biographies
Ask the Librarian for assistance at anytime. The Teacher Librarian is on duty every lunchtime in the library to assist students.

The purpose of 'fake news' may be to discredit a person or organisation through publishing a story based on false and dishonest 'made up' facts.
