Mindfulness

School Psychologist, Stephanie Hawke, shares some activities to help students and their families feel calm, connected and centred.

Mindfulness Activities

Mindfulness Activity 1

This mindfulness activity uses the 5 senses to encourage us to pay attention to the present moment. This exercise can be done anywhere, at any time, and you don’t need anything with you to complete it.

Mindfulness Activity 2

This is a fun mindfulness activity involving blowing bubbles. You might like to consider putting a thought, feeling, or physical sensation on to a bubble and watching it float away.

Mindfulness Activity 3

Music is a powerful tool that we can use to manage our emotions. This activity involves using focusing our attention to drum a beat. You can also practice this activity by drumming or singing along with your favourite songs, and experimenting with how music can influence your mood.

Mindfulness Activity 4

When we are feeling intense thoughts and emotions, it is useful to have some of our favourite things in one spot that we can go to when we need them. This activity provides an example of a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Distress Tolerance Box to offer suggestions for your own soothing toolkit.
