FALL:

  • Check credits and explore options to recover any missing credits.

  • Make sure your your courses will meet college/post-secondary requirements. Go to the Admissions page of your potential college/trade school to verify.

  • Monitor your progress toward earning the Millennium Scholarship www.nevadatreasurer.gov/GGMS/GGMS_Home/ and NCAA eligibility requirements web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/ for potential college athletes.

  • Maintain college prep curriculum including advanced math, science and English.

  • Maintain excellent attendance at school.

  • Volunteer for community service.

  • Participate in clubs, performing arts, and athletics.

  • Maintain or improve your cumulative GPA, good grades.

  • Check for available scholarship opportunities.

  • Take the SAT to prepare for college admissions. The ACT is offered to all Juniors later in the year.

  • Sign-up for the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) which can assist in career exploration. The test can match your interests with your Verbal Skills, Math Skills, and Science and Technical Skills. The is given and interpreted by the U.S. military.

  • Refine your college search and visit campuses.

  • Review your transcript and your Four-Year Plan to make sure you are on track.

  • Work hard on your grades - Colleges use your GPA and/or your college entrance exam (ACT or SAT) for admissions.

WINTER:

  • Keep updated on college news and get on a mailing list.

  • Learn about financial aid @ blog.ed.gov/2017/09/8-steps-to-filling-out-the-fafsa-form/ .

  • Research and be aware of college admissions requirements.

  • Meet with your counselor to discuss post-secondary choices/options.

  • Sign-up for ACT and/or SAT workshops and exams as necessary.

  • Review your transcript to determine how competitive the range of college choices should be.

  • Consider people to ask for recommendations -teachers, counselors, coaches, employers, etc.

  • Think about taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses Senior year

Spring:

  • Apply for Girls and Boys State sponsored by American Legion.

  • Start scheduling college visits- arrange a visit during Spring Break with your family.

  • Meet with your counselor to finalize plan for class registration for Senior year.

  • Create a folder for college and scholarships including letters of recommendation, admission requirement checklist, ACT scores, community service hours log, and any other helpful materials.

  • Study for finals - GRADES MATTER!

  • Research the cost associated with colleges on your list.
