Sophomore To Do List:

  • All Sophomore students will have the opportunity to take the Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) in the Fall. Testing fees are typically $15 and due to the Counseling Office in September. Free PSAT prep is available at www.collegeboard.org.

  • Talk to you counselor about applying for the Hugh O'Brien Summer Leadership Program.

  • Monitor your progress toward earning the Millennium Scholarship @ www.nevadatreasurer.gov/GGMS/GGMS_Home/ and www.nevadatreasurer.gov/uploadedFiles/nevadatreasurergov/content/GGMS/Forms/Doc-FactSheet.pdf . Student need a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or ACT of 21 and four years of math including Algebra II.

  • Prepare for mat and English End of Course Exams (EOC's) in the Spring.

  • Begin researching colleges and/or trade schools @ collegescorecard.ed.gov/ .

  • Talk with your parents, teachers, and counselors about career options and/or interests.

  • Review PSAT results to determine areas of strength.

  • Meet with your counselor in the Spring to review your Four Year Plan, plan for courses and complete the registration process.

  • Discuss course options with your parents and how they are related to your post-secondary options.

  • Consider taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

  • Check your credits - you should have between 12 and 14 credits at the end of your sophomore year.

  • Visit regional college campuses with your parents.
