AUGUST 2022 SPOTLIGHTS
Cheri Stephens is a science teacher at Pensacola High School. She currently teaches four preps and serves a diverse population of students including ELL and IB students. She successfully used CoSpacesPro with all 120 of her IB students. She placed them into groups where they built interactive models of cells. Read about her experience with CoSpaces here. Congratulations to Ms. Stephens and sincere thanks for the hospitality shown when we came to visit.
Katelyn is a student at Escambia County Public Schools. Her Spanish teacher nominated Katelyn for her fearless use of Spanish on the class's very first assignment of the school year. Here is what Ms. A had to say about Katelyn: "The first week of Spanish 1, Katelyn shared a slide show she had made to introduce herself to the teacher. The entire slide show is in Spanish even though Katelyn is not a heritage speaker. The slide show includes graphics. The work is impressive." Congratulations to Katelyn and her family!
Instructional Technology teachers had the privilege of being invited into Ms. McFarland's classroom to watch as students completed their first animation in "Animate." Ms. McFarland walked them through making a background, correctly layering different features and adding two animations while factoring in scale. Watch as students make the sun rise over the ocean as a boat goes flying by.
Disclaimer: this was a first foray into video editing in "Camtasia." Apologies in advance for any technical mishaps in the video. =)
Here is what her nominator shared with us: Angela is a leader throughout the state in industry certification and annually teaches workshops both locally and nationally to teachers in the area of preparing students to successfully attain their certifications. As the department head for West Florida's Multi Media Department, Angel is the web master for the school, the Focus and Canvas Leader, and an instructor in Digital Information Technology and Web Foundations. She consistently has one of the highest pass rates for industry certifications in the district. This past summer she was a workshop presenter at the national Certiport Certified Conference and presented the following: In this hands-on workshop, high school teacher Angela McFarland will explore tools, concepts, and skills you can use to prepare for a successful, productive first day of school—and create meaningful activities for your students throughout the school year. Angela will discuss her efforts to develop an exciting new program for her district that combines the Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB) certification, the LearnKey platform, and other innovative tools and projects. You’ll walk away from this session with a clear understanding of the three “L’s” Angela has developed and how you can use them in your district or school: 1. LearnKey, working together with the ESB course; 2. Leniency, with activities that combine CertPREP Practice Tests, powered by GMetrix, Google Classroom, Chromebooks, and other resources; 3. Love, with additional projects that help students master the Microsoft Office Suite.
Angela has taught in the Escambia Public School District for 26 years at Pine Forest, Washington and now West Florida High School. Congratulations Ms. McFarland!!
