Good afternoon,
This week in English, the children worked really hard to write, edit and publish their final independent write of the year! In our Creative Curriculum we looked at Mayan cities and villages in the settings of jungles, near volcanoes and in coastal areas. In Maths, we converted mixed numbers into improper fractions and looked at adding mixed numbers. We had a Science day where we looked at Electricity! The children enjoyed using the electricity equipment to make and check simple circuits. We spent Friday morning taking part in an Art Competition from local care home Osborne House (please see more information below). We also thoroughly enjoyed rocking out at our final Rock Steady concert of the year on Friday afternoon! Well done to all the performers!
Osborne House are having an Art Exhibition and Art Sale to raise money for Leeds Children’s Hospital to help families being treated there on Friday 4th September 2026 12pm-4pm at Selby Town Hall.
The Art for the sale will come from children’s entries and Osborne House resident’s entries. There will be a competition for the children’s entries and there will be prizes for the entries from different schools with the winning entry having a prize of £25.
The project is called Sunrise Sunset to symbolise the young and elderly working together as a community for a good cause.
In the competition they are looking for the best original idea, not just the best drawn picture, using any media you like. The deadline for entries is Wednesday 22nd July so school will take the entries at the end of the term.
All the entries will then be available to view and purchase on September 4th.
Creative Curriculum: We will finish off our unit by looking at themes like society, beliefs and technological advancements.
English: We will write a poem reflecting on our year.
Maths: We will be subtracting and proper fraction from a mixed number, converting to an improper fraction first.
PE Year 3 & 4: Children need to come dressed in PE kit on Wednesday & Friday. Children need to wear a pair of plain black or navy blue jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and a plain black or navy blue hoodie. Children need to wear suitable shoes for PE (trainers or plimsolls).
PSHE: Both year groups will be completing their Sex Education units, learning about the objectives stated on the Parent Overview.
Homework:
There will not be any homework set. We want the children to enjoy the last part of the year without any additional homework. :)
