We have had a busy week in school this week! The children in Year 6 have made all of the staff feel immensely proud, their mature and calm approach to taking their SATs this week has been nothing short of exemplary. From the moment they walked through the front door each morning, they showed incredible resilience and a positive "can-do" attitude that set a fantastic tone for the rest of the school.

It has not just about the papers they completed; it has been about the way they supported one another, stayed focused under pressure, and kept their wonderful sense of humor throughout. We hope they take some time this weekend to relax and celebrate their hard work—they really do deserve it!

The children in Year 3 had a wonderful visit to Murton Park on Wednesday and the weather did not dampen their spirits! All of the children showed great teamwork and represented our school brilliantly. Thank you to all of the staff who supported on the visit with a special thanks to Miss Spark for all of the behind the scenes organising that took please to ensure the visit was so successful.

We have a very busy week in school next week too, ending on Friday with class photographs being taken.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips

It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.

Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:

“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”

Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.

The Student Council is excited to be hosting a Bake Sale on Thursday 21st May at 3:15pm. There will be a fantastic selection of homemade cakes, cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

The money raised will help to buy new equipment for the school sports shed and sensory garden, so every purchase will make a real difference to our school community.

New Clothes Recycling Bin – Support Our School!

We’re excited to share that a new clothes recycling bin has been installed on the school grounds! This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, reduce waste, and support the school at the same time.

We encourage families to donate any unwanted clothing and shoes. Every item collected helps to raise valuable funds that go directly back into supporting school activities, resources, and opportunities for our children.

By using the recycling bin, you’re not only helping the environment by giving items a second life, but also contributing to the continued growth and success of our school.

WHAT'S COOKING?

What's Cooking?

This week I have continued working with children in Team Nidd and started working with children from Team Swale. They have all been making 'Supercrunch' - a cold pudding or breakfast food using fruit, yoghurt, honey and cereal. They have had the opportunity to learn about different fruits and where they come from. They have also learnt about where their food comes from (plant or animal) with a particular focus on milk, wheat and bees. The children were also introduced to using a safety knife and cut their own fruit up. They all have done an amazing job and showed such determination in creating their 'rainbow' in a cup. I will continue to work with Team Swale next week.

SAFETY ADVICE: VIRAL "SQUISHY TOY" TREND

We are aware of a viral trend circulating online where children are encouraged to heat soft “squishy” toys (sometimes called NeeDoh or jelly cube toys) in a microwave.

This is extremely dangerous. When heated, these toys can burst and release hot contents, which may cause serious burns to the hands, face and skin.

What you can do:

Talk to your child about the risks of copying online challenges or trends
Remind them that not everything seen online is safe or accurate
Ensure squishy toys or similar items are never heated or microwaved
Encourage your child to come to you if they see something online that concerns them

HALF TERM SAFETY REMINDER

⚠️ Half Term Safety Reminder ⚠️

As the weather is expected to improve over the Half Term break, we would like to remind families about the dangers of swimming or bathing in lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and other open water areas.

Although the water may look safe and inviting, open water can be extremely dangerous. Hidden hazards, cold water temperatures, strong currents, and deep mud can quickly put lives at risk. We ask all parents and carers to speak to their children about staying safe and avoiding swimming in unauthorised areas.

We would also like to remind everyone about the importance of safe and considerate parking around the school grounds. Please avoid parking on pavements, blocking driveways, stopping near crossings, or parking in restricted areas. Unsafe parking can put children and families at risk, particularly during busy drop-off and collection times.
