Reception (Nidd & Swale)

Good afternoon, 

Team Reception have had a super week! The children were very excited to begin exploring our new text, Luna Loves Art — a lovely story about creativity, imagination and self-expression. The children have been developing their vocabularies and exploring different ways to describe the artwork in the book. 

Next week, we will be continuing our learning by exploring different artistic techniques such as sketching and observational drawing. The children will have the opportunity to look closely at artwork created by a range of different artists and talk about what they can see, what they like about the pieces, and how the artwork makes them feel. We are looking forward to encouraging the children to express their own ideas and creativity through art.

In Maths, we have been learning about addition. The children have been using a variety of manipulatives, such as counters and cubes, alongside whiteboards to help them record their ideas, explore number problems and explain their thinking. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they begin to solve addition problems in different ways.

In Phonics, we have been practising reading polysyllabic words — these are words that have more than one syllable or “beat,”. The children have been working hard to blend these longer words and are becoming much more confident readers each day.

Thank you so much for all of your lovely home learning posts on Tapestry. It is fantastic to see the children reinforcing and celebrating their learning from school at home with you. The children absolutely love sharing their photos, creations and achievements with the Reception team and their friends, so please keep them coming — we really do enjoy seeing them!

Class Photo Day

Class photos will be taking place on Friday 22nd May. As this falls on a PE day, children will need to come to school in their usual school uniform for the photographs. They will still take part in their PE lesson later in the day- there is no need to bring a change of clothes. Thank you.
