Good afternoon,
It has been a fantastic week in KS1 and the children have thoroughly enjoyed settling into their new teams. They have embraced the change with enthusiasm, working well together and demonstrating excellent teamwork throughout a range of activities. The children also took part in an art competition for Osborne House, where they showcased their creativity and imagination through some wonderful pieces of artwork.
In English, the children have continued writing their non-chronological reports about schools in the Victorian era. They have been developing their use of factual language, clear organisation and subject-specific vocabulary to create informative reports. We were also incredibly proud of the children during Sports Day. They showed great determination, resilience and sportsmanship, cheering each other on and representing the class brilliantly. Well done to everyone for making it such an enjoyable and successful event!
Important Dates:
Nothing new next week
Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
PLEASE NOTE books have not been changed this week. We are working on reading with automaticity.
REMINDERS:
This half term, our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Next half term will see us completing the phonics screening check week commencing 8th June so any extra practise with phonics would be greatly appreciated.
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Every Friday, Year 1 will now be bringing home a phonics home learning sheet looking at sounds that we have covered throughout the week. Any extra practise would really support your children's reading journey.
Below is a list of KS1 common exceptions words. These are a list of words that the children need to be able to read and write - although this isn't homework as such, it may be useful to practice these at home. Across Key Stage 1 we are working really hard to improve spelling and handwriting so any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team KS1
