STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,
This week the children throughout school have made me feel incredibly proud. Children in Early Years have been thinking carefully about how to look after our world, they have produced some outstanding writing reminding us all in school what we can do to help keep our world safe. I have seen some wonderful writing in KS1, children have been learning all about China and have shared lots of information about this and written excellent fact files! Children in Lower Key Stage Two have made some fantastic moving toys, they have been so thoughtful in their design to ensure their toys will be safe for young children and they have wowed me with the vocabulary they have learnt in relation to moving mechanisms. In Y5 children have been writing diaries linked to their topic considering what it is like to live in Brazil.
I couldn't be prouder of our Year 6 children. The way they conducted themselves during their SATs this week was simply outstanding. Every single one of them deserves to feel so proud of their achievements.
Next week will be one of our Learn Through Weeks. Our curriculum has three of these weeks built into the year to allow us the opportunity to further develop the children's cultural capital. Next week the focus of our Learn Through Week is Celebrating other Cultures.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Winter
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child in school please contact myself,
Mr Metcalfe or Mrs Danbury who are the safeguarding leads.
Please can we ask that your child does not ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds.
Children are not play on the wooden trim trail before and after school.
Children are not play football on the field and playground before or after school.
As the school continues to grow the playground is getting busier and busier and it is important we keep everyone safe.
We would also like to encourage parents and children to not cross roads where visibility is reduced to ensure that roads are clear before crossing.

Dear parents and carers,
Ensuring that we can contact you in an emergency is of utmost importance and from an attendance and safeguarding point of view it is also important that we can contact you if your child is not accounted for after morning registration.
We recognise that as parents you may not always have access to your phone, do not have signal or can miss phone calls. With this in mind it is important that we not only have parents and carers numbers (mobile numbers, home numbers and work numbers), but that we also have emergency contacts for all our children.
We ask that each child has at least three emergency contacts on their file should we not be able to contact parents and carers. These emergency contacts can be other family members (as long as they are over 18), friends or neighbours. Emergency contacts have proved valuable in contacting parents/carers in emergency situations.
It is also important that you double check that all contact details are up to date. If you or your emergency contacts have changed mobile number or address recently please inform school as soon as possible, to ensure that the information we have is correct and up to date.
If you need to change any of your details or add an emergency contact please email admin.shs@ebor.academy with the details.
Thank you all very much and enjoy your weekend.
Warm regards
Mr Metcalfe
What's Cooking?
Team Dove continued in Cook School this week making a delicious chicken stew. They have had the opportunity to use a range of cooking techniques, primarily measuring, peeling, cutting, chopping and also using a hob. They all worked extremely hard and showed me that they already have such a good working knowledge of working safely and hygienically.
Several discussions were had relating to the ingredients we were using, particularly the potatoes and chicken. The children spent some time looking at the Eatwell Guide and were able to place a variety of foods into the relevant sections on the guide. The children also enjoyed learning about the seasonality of fruit and vegetables and decided that summer was definitely a great time for fruit because strawberries and raspberries grow really well.
Well done to all the children in Team Dove over the last two weeks, you have been brilliant. Your attitude to your learning is so amazing and I look forward to working with you again in the future.
Next week, I am looking forward to working with Team Derwent.
