WEEKLY UPDATE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week is our Whole School Learn Through Week, and we are so excited to be exploring and celebrating different cultures from around the world! In Reception, we will be learning all about the Buddhist festival of Vesak – a joyful celebration that marks the birth of Buddha. Throughout the week, the children will explore the life of Buddha through storytelling, simple discussions, and picture books. This links to some of our previous learning around different religions and cultures. We will introduce simple mindfulness activities like calm breathing and reflection, and talk about the values of kindness, peace, and respect for all living things – just as Buddhists do during Vesak.
Please check your child’s book bags as we have sent some handwriting practice sheets home. It would be fantastic if you could spend some time practising letter formation with your child in preparation for year 1. The first set of sheets we have sent home will help your child to form anticlockwise letters. We have attached a ‘Little Wandle’ handwriting formation guide so you can use the rhymes and phrases to help your child. When we practice our handwriting at school, we are encouraging the children to 'self-talk' the phrase for the letter they are forming. Self-talk is a way we help our brain to get smarter and helps us to remember to move our pencil in an anticlockwise motion.
In school, our children's writing about how we can help our world is already generating a lot of attention from visitors and staff. Team Swale and Nidd have loved receiving such wonderful feedback on their learning.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend!
