STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 27th February 2026
Dear Families
We have started the new half term with a Spring feel, the weather is warmer and before long we will have full use of the field again. The children have returned from half term full of enthusiasm and a positive attitude to learning. Children in Y3 and Y4 have been creative using a pulley system to create traditional Polish Churches! We have now moved to Instagram to showcase the learning we are doing in school. Please can I encourage all of our parents and carers to search and follow us. Alternatively, you can find a link to it from our website.
Next week we will be celebrating World Book Day. Miss Slinn (who leads reading in our school) has organised a wonderful day for the children and we would love to see as many parents as possible joining us for our 'open door' event at 2:30pm. Please see the information below for more details.
I am delighted to share that whole school attendance is improving and we have just tipped into 96% for our attendance for the academic year so far. I know how much of this is down to you, as parents and carers, to ensure your children are in school everyday and on time. We know that good attendance directly relates to increased confidence and academic outcomes for children and so I would like to thank you for continuing to support positive attendance.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.
Including school trips and events.
Thank you
What's Cooking?
This week I have been working with Team Derwent and Team Foss. We have continued to make Libum Roman Bread which is a sweet bread made from ricotta cheese. It is baked and sweetened with honey and would have been eaten by the Romans as a breakfast food or snack.
The children have had the opportunity to use a variety of skills (weighing, measuring, mixing, beating, kneading, sifting) and have learnt all about the ingredients used. We particularly focussed on ricotta cheese and the children enjoyed watching a video on how it is produced.
Well done to all of you this week, your sweet breads looked and tasted delicious! I look forward to continuing to work with Team Derwent and Team Foss next week.

One of our Key Stage One children has been up to some incredible fundraising for Little Princess Trust to transform her long hair into a free wig for someone who is battling cancer and other treatments. In less than a day Ada raised over £290. If she can reach her target of £700 this will cover the cost of making, fitting and styling of the wig.
We are incredibly proud of the choices, dedication and thoughtfulness that Ada has shown through this.
