STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,
This week we have seen the introduction of our new catering provider, Apetito. As with all developments and changes there will be some teething issues and I thank all of our children and families for their understanding whilst we continue to provide the best possible experience for our children at lunchtime.
Please can I encourage all of our parents and carers to book their child's meal in advance. It's important that we have the bookings in place otherwise we are at risk of not being able to offer your child what they would like on the day, as pre-booked meals need to be prioritised. The children who do not have a pre-booked meal will be given a meal but it may not be their preferred choice.
We will be providing another opportunity for family members to come into school to taste the food and we encourage as many of you to do this as possible. Details will be shared about this over the coming days. Thank you to the parents who have provided feedback this week with regards to the meals, it's greatly appreciated and supports us in where things are working well and were adaptations need to be made. If you do have anything you would like to share with us please do email us on admin.shs@ebor.academy
Have a lovely weekend, warm regards,
Mrs Winter
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child in school please contact myself,
Mr Metcalfe or Mrs Danbury who are the safeguarding leads.
At staynor Hall we are passionate about the curriculum offer we have for our children. You are able to find all of the curriculum information on our website here.
This week we would like to share the intent of our curriculum, it is as follows:
Our aim is for all our children to be respectful, lifelong learners, who can make a meaningful contribution to their community by the time they leave us in Year 6, ready for their next steps in their life journey. We want our children to go on to live a life of choice and opportunity.
Every child will experience development and growth through exploration, creativity and discovery. Each individual learner is encouraged and supported to live our core values so they can develop determination, collaboration, honesty and their self-belief.
Please can we ask that your child does not ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds.
Please can children not play on the wooden trim trail before and after school.
Please can children not play football on the field and playground before or after school.
As the school continues to grow the playground is getting busier and busier and it is important we keep everyone safe.
We would also like to encourage parents and children to not cross roads where visibility is reduced and to make sure that all are looking before crossing roads.

Dear parents and carers,
This week is mental health week. Mental health is something we discuss in school. One of the ways we support children in school is by allowing a daily opportunity for them to share how they are feeling. Below are some tips for parents and carers on ways to support their child's mental health and the importance of sharing and reflecting on their emotions.
Top Tips for Parents
1. When children and young people reflect on their different emotions, it can help them better understand themselves and what they need.
Go for a walk, drive, or try some mindful colouring or baking together.
2. Encourage your children and young people to express their emotions and thoughts through journaling. It can be less confronting than speaking out loud and is a helpful way to process what is going on.
3. Feedback is crucial for helping us see our blind spots and gain greater insight. Children and young people are no different. Creating safe and supportive ways to share your own experience with your child can help them understand themselves and their impact on the world around them.
Warm regards
Mr Metcalfe
What's Cooking?
I have been working with Team Swale this week in celebration of the Chinese New Year which started on Wednesday 29th January.
The children have enjoyed making some chinese noodles and a chinese lantern.. They got the opportunity to eat their noodles with chopsticks, along with some prawn crackers and thoroughly enjoyed them! It is the Year of the Snake and the children enjoyed chatting about Chinese traditions. They also listened to some lovely relaxing Chinese Bamboo Flute music whilst they made their lanterns.
Whilst making their noodles, the children were introduced to using measuring spoons and did a fantastic job of measuring out their ingredients. They also had the opportunity to look at the EatWell Guide and will learn more about this when they go into Year 1. They also enjoyed looking at a globe so they could see where China is. All of the children worked so hard in Cook School this week, I am very proud of them all.
I will be working with Team Aire next week and we will be travelling to Italy and making delicious pizza! We look forward to sharing this with you next week.
