WEEKLY UPDATE
Good afternoon,
This week, the children have continued to build on their sentence writing skills, and they have truly blown us away with their incredible efforts! They have been trying really hard to remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. The children chose something they were interested in and discussed it with their talk partners. The children then were then challenged to write a fact about their interest, which inspired lots of wonderful sentence writing. They are really growing confidence as writers!
You may have noticed that as the children have grown in confidence with their early writing, we are now beginning to move on to securing accurate spelling. Each morning, the children will take part in a short challenge where they will spell words independently, using picture prompts on our whiteboard. Arriving at school for 8.45am will give the children plenty of time to come in calmly, look after their belongings independently, and then take part fully in this activity.
In Maths, we have been ordering numbers 1–5. The children used cubes and number blocks to make their own “staircase patterns”, adding one more each time. This helped them to understand number order and counting in a practical and fun way.
Please do look on Tapestry for resources on how to support Phonics at home. Learning to read words that contain digraphs (two letters one sound) ai, ee, oa, oo, ar and a trigraph (three letters, one sound) igh takes lots of repeated practice. Thank you for your continued support with reading – please remember to write in your child's reading diary to say you are reading at home. If you have any questions about how to support your child at home, please feel free to speak to Mrs Murray or Miss Slinn.
Have a lovely weekend!
