WEEKLY UPDATE
Good afternoon,
This week we have been solving a big mystery! The Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk snuck into our classrooms and took Eeyore and Elmo. We wrote amazing wanted posters to help us to find the Giant and this meant Eeyore and Elmo safely returned to our classrooms this morning.
This is what we will be looking at next week in English and Maths.
English - We will be looking at Chinese New Year and how this is celebrated. The children will be writing their own wishing tag.
Maths - We will be looking at the number 7 and exploring how this is composed using the numberblocks to help us.
PE sessions will happen on a Monday every week. The children can come in PE kits on this day. If your child wears earrings, please make sure they remove these or cover them with plasters on PE days.
The children will also continue to do daily phonics lessons and we will be introducing our Phase 3 digraphs: or and ur. We will also consolidate the digraphs we learnt last week: oo and ar. Team Swale and Nidd are so excited to get started learning our new phonemes.
Your child will be bringing home today a new guided reading book as well as a new picture book from our class library. Their guided reading book will reflect our recent phonics assessments. We encourage you to read this book at least 3 times a week at home and please record this in your child's reading record. The children who have read 3 times at home are placed into a raffle to win a prize. Please see below the parent overview for our Spring 1 topic.
Please keep sharing your photographs on Tapestry. We enjoy having the time after our snuggle story in the afternoon to share these as a class.
Next Friday, 31st January, it is Chinese New Year open classrooms. You are welcome to come into school from 2:30pm and visit your child's classroom to see the learning we have been doing about Chinese New Year.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
