WEEKLY UPDATE
Good afternoon,
Dear Parents/Carers
The children have had a fantastic week and have been thoroughly enjoying their learning about non-fiction books and facts about the Arctic. They have been learning about the structure of a sentence, focusing on using capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.
Team Nidd have really enjoyed their visits to Cook School with Mrs Soper, where they have been learning about Chinese New Year and making Chinese food. From next week, it will be Team Swales’ turn, which we are sure they will love!
In Phonics, we are continuing to learn one digraph over two days. The children are picking these up quickly—thank you so much for your continued support with phonics at home.
In Maths, the children have been working on subitising and matching numerals to quantities, focusing on numbers 1–5. We have been learning how to use a dice and have introduced the children to some simple number track games.
Important information
Just a polite reminder that we expect your child's reading book bag to be brought to school everyday. Children in Reception benefit so much from bringing their book bag every day. It helps them develop independence and routine, keeps their books safe and protected, and ensures they always have their phonics materials ready to practise between school and home. When children bring their book bag every day, it’s not just about carrying books. It’s about building a routine that strengthens their independence, organisation, and readiness for learning. These small habits in Reception grow into long‑term skills that help them manage homework, remember equipment, and take responsibility for their own learning as they move through school.
In Reception, children make the biggest progress in reading when school and home work together. At school, we teach phonics and early reading skills, and reading at home helps children practise and become more confident with these skills. Sharing school reading books at home helps children remember what they have learned, builds fluency, and shows them that reading is important and enjoyable. Talking about books together also supports language and understanding. When parents record reading at home, it helps us see how children are getting on and how best to support them in school. By working together, we can give children the best possible start to their reading journey. Thank you for your support! 📚💛
Just a reminder if your child has their ears pierced, please ensure they are covered with tape on Wednesday before PE.
Have a lovely weekend!
