STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 11th October 2024
Dear Families,
Reading is a vital part of our curriculum and we are proud of the children for how well they engage in reading lessons throughout school. Mr Willson, who leads reading in school for us has ensured that the books we use in school to teach children to read are very closely matched to children's reading ability. Please can we encourage you to listen to your child read regularly at home to further support the work we are doing in school within this curriculum area and to sign their reading book so that we know when it needs to be changed. We thank you for your commitment and support with this.
Well done to all of the children for navigating school photo day so well on Wednesday, the older children were wonderful at organising their younger siblings, I'm hopeful you will have some wonderful photos ready for the festive season!
Children and staff from Teams Calder and Humber have had a wonderful day at Eden Camp. Enrichment activities are a key feature in our curriculum to give children real life opportunities to explore their learning more deeply. The children have been exemplary today and we are incredibly proud of them.
I am delighted to share that Miss. Slinn will join our teaching team from Monday 4th November. Miss. Slinn has a wealth of experience teaching children in the Early Years and she will be the class teacher for Team Swale as well as leading all of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Winter
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child in school please contact myself,
Mr Metcalfe or Mrs Danbury who are the safeguarding leads.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you all for your ongoing commitment for your child's attendance. I am excited to share that Staynor Hall Primary Academy is currently exceeding our whole school attendance target of 97%! This achievement wouldn't have been possible without your continued support in ensuring your child’s regular attendance.
We continue to support and encourage attendance in school through;
A weekly reward for every Team that is over 97% aka Classopoly!
A weekly attendance Assembly
An attendance league table with class rewards for those Teams with the highest attendance at the end of each half term
Monthly prize draws for those children who have had 100% attendance for the previous month (Selby Superbowl have kindly donated vouchers as a reward).
Thank you again for your commitment to their education and for partnering with us to create a positive learning environment. Every day counts, and together, we are making a significant difference in your child’s academic journey.
Warm Regards
Mr Metcalfe

Dear Parents and Carers,
At the end of last year we issued an Ebor Trust Newsletter to highlight the new legislation that is now in place around unauthorised absences (holidays during term times, irregular attendance and lateness). It is important at this point to again highlight the new changes from September 2024.
Penalty notice fines can be issued to parents for each sibling. For example, three siblings absent for term time leave would result in three fines
Five consecutive days of term time leave could result in a penalty notice fine being issued
Ten sessions (two sessions per school day) of unauthorised absence in a ten-week period could result in penalty notice fines
It is also important to highlight that repeated attendance issues can result to an escalation
First Offence - An initial Penalty Notice fine of £160.00 per child could be issued due to non-school attendance (reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days)
Second offence - The second time a penalty notice could be issues within three years. The amount will be £160.00 per child pid within 28 days
Third offence and any further offences - Could result in the case being presented to Magistrates Court and a fine of up to £2,500. Cases found guilty can also show on future Disclosure and Barring Service Certificates
This academic year we have notified the local authority of 3 unauthorised absences due to term time holidays.
If you have any questions or queries please speak to Mr Metcalfe.
Yours sincerely
Steve Metcalfe

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the days grow shorter and the evenings become darker, it’s important to remind our children about staying safe, especially on their way to and from school. Here are a few helpful tips from North Yorkshire Fire Brigade around staying safe:
Always wear a helmet when riding a bike, even for short journeys
Make sure you have lights on your bike, and they are charged up
Make sure your front light is white and your rear light is red so other road users know which way you are travelling
Make sure your bike is fitted with front, side and rear reflectors at all times
Wear high visibility clothing during the day and reflective clothing or have reflective strips for when it gets darker. These could be on gloves, vests, sashes, bags or even bikes
If you’re walking keep to footpaths where there is one. If there isn’t one keep to the righthand side so you can see on-coming traffic.
Pay attention to your surroundings, take out earphones so you can hear vehicles approaching
Use designated crossing points where they are available
Please visit https://www.northyorksfire.gov.uk/your-safety/safety-campaigns/dark-nights-safety-campaign/ for more tips around supporting your child to stay safe as the nights are drawing in.
Thank you for your attention and care.
Best regards,
Steve Metcalfe

What's Cooking?
I have continued working with Team Aire this week and have started working with Team Wharfe too. We have continued to make Yo Yo Biscuits in celebration of what they have been learning in the classroom (old and new toys). They have tried many new skills including using digital scales, using a rolling pin and cutters and showed excellent spreading skills when it came to icing the biscuits. They also learnt about where flour comes from and the process it goes through to get to the shops.
Well done to the rest of Team Aire and to Team Wharfe, your biscuits looked delicious. I do hope you enjoy sharing them!

To help you get on with your day and not waiting for a member of the team become available, we would like to ask for the following:
When returning forms, these can be placed into the internal post box located to the left hand side of the entrance doors.
Information regarding change of contact details, medical conditions, address or emergency contacts are to be emailed to admin.shs@ebor.academy. We must hold this information in writing.
A leave of absence form must be completed and returned to the school for all absence unrelated to illness or appointments.
Information regarding appointments are to be emailed to admin.shs@ebor.academy. We will ask for a copy of the appointment confirmation for our records. This can be a photo or a screenshot included in the email.
Whilst it can be easy to speak to someone face to face we will request that most queries be emailed across so they can be passed on to the member of staff so information is not missed.
Please can we also ask that if using the disabled bays when collecting and dropping off that the gates are closed behind you for safeguarding purposes.
