For their final design class summative at EBI, each 8th grader created their own documentary film. First, students chose a topic they were passionate about. Thinking like a reporter, they gathered all the information they could about their subject. Supporting evidence was a must! They then searched for the point of view around the story that represented their thinking. Throughout the process, they circled back to this essential question: What do you want your audience to know about this story?
Next, they wrote their script, and created storyboards of what the finished film would look like and sound like. Then, they embarked on the long process of editing and began to see their finished films take shape. Because of shelter-in-place restrictions, students needed to use stock footage, conduct interviews via zoom, and get creative! As you will see while screening these powerful films, our eighth graders rose to the challenge beautifully, We hope these films challenge your thinking and inspire you to make positive change in the world.
