About my project: This presentation will cover and discuss the process and development of my community project through all of its phases. Starting off with the research unit in english class, leading up to the social quarantine due to COVID-19,final presentation and the community project action.
Inspiration: I have been exposed to the importance and love for sports from a very young age. However, I had never delved into the science behind it, and so the community project became a great opportunity for me to extend my scientific knowledge of what I practiced, and to find a way to impart my knowledge on my community through action.

About my project: This presentation focuses on bringing awareness to the topic of mental health in adolescents within the EBI community.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because it's a topic that I related to throughout my whole middle school experience. As someone who has faced the challenges of mental health and known others who have struggled similarly, I wanted to bring awareness to the topic.

About my project: Syria is in a very complicated position and has been for the past 7 years as the civil war has taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Very scary and new problems have arisen from this, including the targeting of civilians. Many have been targeted and explicitly killed during the war, evoking terror in many.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because it's a very complicated and messy situation that isn't known to many people, and I wanted to spread knowledge to everyone.

About my project: Our project explains the impacts of three major things the food industry is hiding: the truth behind factory farming, the environmental effects of meat, and the destruction caused by palm oil plantations. In our presentation we explain these problems and how you can take action against them.
Inspiration: I am very passionate about both animal welfare and the climate impact of food. I also wanted to learn more about this so I could take action myself by switching my eating habits.

About my project: My presentation revolves around how people tend to make assumptions about all hip-hop music just because they might have heard a song or two with a not so good message. I will be explaining the different types of hip-hop music and the stereotypes that come with them as well. I will explore the different styles and brief history.
Inspiration: I am really connected to music so I thought this would be an original topic. I also have had experience with people making stereotypes and making assumptions on hip-hop before I even get the chance to play it.

About my project: Throughout our history, education in prison has always been bad, and prisoners have been treated like animals. We need to fix this. If we all get involved, education in prison can be changed. We need your help.
Inspiration: I chose this project after watching the documentary College Behind Bars. I feel like this is a big problem that doesn’t have enough advocacy and so many don’t know about it.

About my project: In this project, I explored the mother-daughter relationship through research and action. The project aims to explore the concept of having healthier and happier relationships through open communication. This project deals directly with the global context of identities and relationships.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because I think the topic is often ignored and overlooked.

About my project: Do you know what the company EBCE does? Have you ever thought about where your energy comes? Well, in this presentation, you will learn more about your energy options.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because it interests me to help others in my community. As many of us know, COVID-19 is the main focus of everyone’s energy these days, but it is also vital to make sure our energy is being used wisely. I chose an energy topic to be able to connect with my community, and be able to help them.

About my project: In my project, I researched ways to re-define the expectations and encourage integration, which does not strip immigrants of who they are but it enriches our culture and fosters diversity in our country.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because immigration has been such a prevalent topic in our politics, economy, etc. Furthermore, the need that I mentioned above is very important because there is the notion that immigrants are supposed to assimilate, which requires immigrants to forget important parts of their identity.

About my project: Uighur Muslims have been targeted and persecuted for their religion in China. In my project I talk about how Uighur Muslims have been targeted in many ways ranging from surveillance to internment camps.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because I really enjoy learning about politics and I have always thought this topic was very important and interesting.

About my project: In my community project I'll be diving deep into the roots of this issue, how to fix it and why it matters. I've been doing research for multiple months so I promise you'll learn something from my presentation. I hope you take the time to go and watch it, and thank you for listening.
Inspiration: I'm very interested and passionate about animals and how they interact with humans. Yosemite is also a special place to me and I want us, humans, and the black bears that also live there to be able to coexist so we don't have more issues.

About my project: This project was really about activating empathy. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was forced to change my plans but with the help of my amazing mentor Daniel, I was able to create something I will be proud to present.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because I’ve always had a strong bond with animals. There is a big problem of homelessness in the Bay Area, so I wanted to combine these two topics and help my community. Doing this project has really made me a more compassionate, aware and knowledgable person.

About my project: Recycling was always supposed to be a good thing, but in reality the recycling industry is very ineffective, and there are a lot of materials and energy wasted in the process.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because it’s something really important but most people have the wrong idea about it or don’t know. Also it’s a topic of interest for me because I am very interested in reducing waste.

About my project: Our project explains the impacts of three major things the food industry is hiding: the truth behind factory farming, the environmental effects of meat, and the destruction caused by palm oil plantations. In our presentation we explain these problems and how you can take action against them.
Inspiration: I chose this because it intertwines with my passion for abolishing animal cruelty.

About my project: Gene therapy is a rapidly advancing technology that will soon impact the medical field. The technique could eventually be used to cure incurable diseases, like cancer and HIV. Despite its great significance, gene editing has not yet reached the public on a big scale. My project explores the need to raise awareness regarding gene therapy in our community.
Inspiration: My personal connection to genetic engineering helped pique my interest near the beginning of the project. It turns out that IVF, the same process my two mothers used to create me, has also been used for genetic screening and the selection of characteristics. If the technology we have now had been around when I was created, I could be a very different person.

About my project: I measured and researched the effect of political prejudice in the media and its effect on the state of public discourse, on the function of our government and on our system of government. I also explored concepts such as political polarization, affective polarization, and confirmation bias, highlighting its connections to political prejudice in the media.
Inspiration: Throughout my life, I have observed and experienced partisan prejudice throughout mainstream political media. The manipulation of facts and general political polarization seen in the media forced me to wonder how much integrity could be maintained in the US public if our news sources could not maintain it.

About my project: Our community project is an effort to inspire other schools go green. We realized that EBI was a green school and with this knowledge, we thought that the best way to help other schools do the same was to create a website that contained steps and research to help them go green. There's also a blog where people can add their own ideas and steps. Through this website, we can create a chain of schools with very low carbon emissions and very low energy waste.
Inspiration: Our school's green practices.

About my project: The fracking process jeopardizes water sources and communities this is a huge problem and must be stopped
Inspiration: I'm interested in the topic of hydraulic fracturing or fracking because of the profound impact it has on the ecosystems around fracking sites. These ecosystems, such as a stream mentioned in the documentary Gasland, suffered extreme “die-offs”.
By Penelope Varela-Halsey
About my project: My project is about healthy relationships in adolescents. I talk about signs that your relationship is unhealthy. I also talk about different types of abusive and unhealthy relationships.
Inspiration: I choose this topic because my aunt works with these kinds of issues and I decided to work on them too.
By Sam Hokkanen
About my project: I researched about laws, legislations and regulations regarding Holocaust education in [schools] all over the U.S. I also found the best solutions for problems that arise around this topic. Through this project, I will share everything that I've learned and experienced.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because although it is a rough topic to hear about, I enjoy teaching and learning more about it. It was a topic that I could really express my knowledge.
By Sebastian Whitfield
About my project: My community project is about student involvement and how it can be implemented at EBI.
Inspiration: I picked this topic because I've always been really involved at EBI and I would like to help other students do the same. Over the years I have supported camps, movie nights and admissions and advancement events. Being active and involved in the EBI community has always been of great value to me.

About my project: Education is a necessity in life. It's through education that we learn how to read, write, and expand skills that we'll use throughout our lives. We all know why education is important but we still have many students not getting a good education at U.S. public schools.
Inspiration: My personal experience. For the past 9 years, I’ve been able to go to an amazing bilingual school where I received a great education. I'm aware that many other kids are not presented with the same quality of education as I have. This is a problem because a lot of students don’t have access to the resources needed to succeed in school. It's important to help others who don’t get the best opportunities.

Inspiration: The inspiration for the community project came from an assignment about ideas that could help EBI reduce their carbon footprint that I did last year in Science class. At that time, I wondered how I could reduce this number but I couldn’t figure out how. Then a friend gave me an idea relating to energy waste. I thought about it in the context of the school and stuck with that idea.

About Tomás' project: Through this project I would like to raise awareness about how poverty affects the youth in The Dominican Republic by not allowing them to count on proper equipment to develop careers in the athletic field.
Inspiration: I chose this topic because if you may or may not have noticed, I am totally in love with sports, and I wanted to enjoy doing this project. So what better way to combine the two.

About my project: People often talk about Stonewall and Harvey Milk. And that's about it. Other things happened, but you don't hear about them. LGBTQ+ written history is full of gaps and the people who experienced it are becoming few and far between. The LGBTQ+ history needs to be well known.
Inspiration: I was inspired to record some of this history that is in my family and would have been lost in time.
