Writing
There is a large amount of writing done in 1st Grade. Students begin to take their ideas and form them on paper. 1st Graders use "Kid-Writing", which encourages students to try their best to sound out a word and then move on. Even though the word may not be spelled correctly, this prevents students from constantly stopping to ask an adult how to spell a word and allows them to keep their ideas flowing. An adult will them show them the "Grown-Up Writing" (how to actually spell the word) once they are done.
Here are the writing units we focus on in 1st Grade:
- Small Moments (Short/simple stories about ourselves)
- Non-Fiction
- Opinons
- Narrative Series
