Frequently Asked Questions
If I cannot attend Band Camp can I still do Marching Band?
Band Camp is required for all students in the marching band. Any students with schedule conflicts must have them cleared AND approved with Mr. Koppenol before May. Becasue of how much is learned during band camp, in almost all cases students that cannot attend band camp will not be able to participate in the marching band season.
What do students learn at Band Camp?
Students learn the music, choreography, and marching drill for the upcoming school year's show. They also participate in team activities to build relationships with their peers.
How can I prepare for Band Camp?
Students can start exercising a few hours a day in early July to help with conditioning. They can also start getting into a camp routine at least a week before camp.
Will I be expected to memorize music?
YES! You will need to be able to play and memorize the music performed by the band. There will be a schedule kept to check off skills in music. Bottom line, rookie or veteran, everyone needs to learn the music, play the music and have it memorized!
Will I need to practice at home too?
YES! The old words of "practice makes perfect" are indeed true. You will need (and will be expected to) practice on your own to learn the music and other skills.
Do I need to attend every practice?
Yes. For additional details on this question, please refer directly to the Band Handbook, under Attendance Policy. Bottom Line: ANY excuse must be approved by the Band director at least one week prior to an absence.
The golden rule : COMMUNICATION.
