The Culture and Climate subcommittee of the EASD was created by the EASD Diversity Alliance in August 2020. The committee members were tasked with improving culture and climate in the district. Members of the committee started their work by researching best practice and reviewing current systems throughout the district. The subcommittee recognized that most schools lacked a systemic process to gauge climate, determine interventions, and measure their success. The team also recognized that the district should do more to spread the positive news coming out of each of our schools and the work being done to achieve our goal of becoming an anti-racist school district. The subcommittee narrowed our focus and developed two goals with supporting action plans in an effort to address our needs.
Goal #1: Develop a system to measure building/district climate, collect and analyze the data, and determine interventions to improve the climate for all stakeholders
Goal #2: Develop a resource guide for our schools that focuses on equity, shared leadership, ideas for recognition of minority staff and students. Create a platform (Facebook/Website) to highlight the various accomplishments of our district and best practices around building anti-racist schools.
