Tier II interventions are targeted services typically provided in a group setting to students with common needs. Each year, we evaluate the current trends of needed support amongst the student population. We facilitate or partner with outside providers, to identify students that would benefit from specific skill development, or require a stronger layer of peer accountability to enhance their success. Some Specialized Psycho-educational Groups: Anger Management, Art for Relaxation, Grief/Loss, Self Esteem, Life Skills Group, LGBT, Healthy/Unhealthy relationships, Meditation, Smoking Cessation Group, Boy’s Mentoring Group, Recovery Revolution support group, Parenting/Pregnancy Group; CIS Freshman Transition Group, Social Skills Group, Young Professionals Group, and many more.

An art therapist works with groups of students who exhibit symptoms of anxiety and depression to help them explore the benefits of expressive art as a coping tool.
We currently work with the Center for Humanistic Change to facilitate a group that provides opportunity to increase self-awareness, and develop better coping skills and conflict resolution. This may be the group that is easily identified because of their behavior, yet we seek to see this behavior as communication at high school level. Anger management program focused on identifying triggers and developing healthier coping skills, while encouraging the power of forgiveness.
Boys mentoring group included a curriculum that addresses the coping expectations placed on boys and their emotions, the encouragement of aggressive behavior, and appropriate interactions with female peers. It is a place to explore the lack of a male role model influences their life and perception of self.
Recovery Revolution is offering for the fifth year a group each semester, a support groups that identifies and validates the emotional social and impact on students that battle these systematic effects while keeping their academic goals.
Center for Humanistic Change is offering a group that will support new students to the school. Their focus is supporting a student that may be struggling in their transition to a new building.
Students will learn to embrace their feelings with the support of an adult, instead of finding ways to avoid them. Students will be encouraged to communicate and see the true purpose of feelings. It was designed to motivate participants to face their fears with courage and learn new ways to cope. Ms. Symia will be the facilitator of this 6 week program.
CIS staff establishes each summer a transitional plan for those students involved with CIS at the middle school and bridge the gap to the high school. CIS created a 5-week group of all students to ensure their transition is successful and supply a proactive approach to students that require any kind of support. This was to determine placement and level of needs of each student, and ensure a positive transition to the high school.
Students explore the commonalities in their grief and feelings associated with the grief process. They learn healthy coping skills and make connections as a way to deal with these feelings.
Encouraging Healthy boundaries, support and exploring feelings that are specific to this populations. This group will provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for students to explore sensitive topics specific to this population i.e. self-awareness, coming-out process, relationships, and empowerment
An 6-week Life Skills group that focused on developing interviewing skills, communication skills, decision making skills, career options, and budgeting finances.
Project CONNECT® is a nicotine cessation and reduction program developed specifically for adolescents. Project CONNECT® was developed through the review of numerous adolescent tobacco cessation programs, research on behavior change theory and positive youth development approaches and by utilizing prevention and intervention models intended to address other risk behaviors. It was designed to motivate participants not only to participate in the program but also to ultimately make more positive choices, including changing their nicotine use, attitudes and behaviors.
This group will target the students that require basic social skill development, such as boundaries, communication skills, assertiveness, and self-awareness. We will target those students on the autistic spectrum or show signs of delayed social development.
A facilitator/case worker will provide individual services, in and out of school. They also facilitate a group 1x a month at school to provide a peer support group as well.
Diamond Carr created a group that will support girls of color that are trying to find their voice. An ideal referral to this group would be a female that is trying to find her identity with acceptance and love of self. She is looking to empower our girls to face the obstacles and definitions/expectations set for them due to their race. All students are welcome
We are working with Shanti Project to bring weekly meeting to develop the skill of meditation and mindfulness. This will be offered to staff as well and expand as a tier 1 service.
