Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization bringing coordinated, integrated student supports into public schools to meet the needs of at-risk students. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. To help our students achieve their greatest successes, we determine students’ needs and establish relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to provide needed resources. Community resources provide the substance to our “Five Basics” model that has allowed our students to flourish over the last 35 years. Communities In Schools (CIS) expanded a longstanding relationship with Easton Area School District by bringing integrated student supports to Easton Area High School in 2013. CIS provides students 9th through 12th grades with opportunities and support to improve behavior, attendance, and academics through specialized individual and group counseling to selected at-risk students. CIS also leverages additional partners to provide programming, specialized groups, and health initiatives to support student growth and success.
The Integrated Support System Approach assigns Site Coordinators in the school setting to leverage community resources to meet both the academic and nonacademic needs of students and their families through school-wide, group-level, and individualized support services. Site Coordinators focus on improving outcomes related to academics, behavior, attendance, social-emotional learning, and family engagement at the school and student level. CIS is designed to provide specialized intensive support—including individualized programming, brokered resources, case management, truancy intervention, behavior modification, parent engagement activities, and weekly counseling – that can help students succeed and often return to their home schools
Services designed to foster a positive school climate and address school-level risk. These supports are widely available to ALL students and does not require a CIS referral
