Spend your summer making a difference in students’ lives! The Summer Reading Program is a Science of Reading (SoR) curriculum designed to support 15,000 New Mexico students, from incoming kindergarteners to outgoing eighth graders. This program aims to strengthen literacy skills through evidence-based practices and promote long-term academic success.
Seniors can be hired as instructors for $35/hour. The qualifications require you to be a high school graduate.
Program Dates: June 8 - July 17 (No program week of June 29 - July 3).

Los Alamos National Laboratory is excited to announce that the Summer 2026 High School Internship application is now open! This is the third term using our new and improved application process, designed to make participation simpler for mentors and more transparent, accessible, and engaging for students.
What’s New?
Students no longer apply through an IRC on lanl.jobs.
A streamlined application is now available on our Student Programs website.
Applicants can browse and select specific internship projects listed in our High School Project Description Book.
Additional guidance and resources are provided online to support students throughout the process.

Eligibility Requirements
Must be a high school senior during the internship (current junior)
16 years of age or older
Minimum 2.75 GPA
Enrolled in a New Mexico high school
Must pass a pre-employment drug test

New Mexico to offer 3,000 paid summer internships to high school students!
The New Mexico Public Education Department is expanding its summer internship program to offer as many as 3,000 paid internships for high school students next year.
The internships are set to give students hands-on experience in careers ranging from health care to technology. The internships are eight weeks long and will focus on industries the Department of Workforce Solutions deems as being in high“Students from every corner of our state can explore careers, gain hands-on skills and chart a path to a meaningful future,” said Public Education Secretary Mariana D. Padilla.
