The beginning of the school year is an important time for our class to get to know one another. Sharing common goals, interests, and likes and dislikes enables students to not only relate to each other, but to relate to their teacher, as well. This process promotes a learning environment where all students feel welcome, respected, and comfortable expressing themselves in the classroom.
One way that I encourage this type of environment is through a "Sunshine of the Week" board. Each student will be given one week throughout the school year to showcase themselves. The "Sunshine of the Week" will complete an "All About Me" poster to be hung and shared with the class, they will have a special "show and share", where they can bring in awards, prized possessions, collections, or anything else that is special to them. Families will also have the opportunity to write a letter to the class telling us why your child is so special to you.
