During Term 1, Year 6 have been studying Forces and Motions. They have been testing gravitational theories proposed by theorists such as Galileo Galilei and have been able to use scientific equipment such as the Newton Metre. We also investigated air and water resistance, where the children carried out experiments to explore these theories.
We have been incredibly lucky this term to be able to take part in a number of athletic taster sessions. These have given us the ability to try different sports to see if we enjoy activities that we may not have tried before.
We had the opportunity to meet British Athletes and hear how they overcame personal challenges to become some of the very best in their sports. We were inspired by their stories.
During RSHE we have been learning about the cocoa farms in Ghana and have been debating whether children should or should not be working on them. We looked at Maslow's hierarchy of needs to weigh up our decisions and then shared our thoughts and points of view.
This term we have learnt netball in PE, tints, tones and shades when sketching in Art and have undertaken a 100-word challenge amongst many other exciting things.
This term we have been enjoying our yoga topic in PE where we have been learning to use strength and flow.
In music, we were excited to take part in a Samba workshop. We played on African drums and took part in a whole school music celebration.
Our writing topic has been inspired by Chris Hadfield; the first Canadian to go to space. We have carried out research and written our own biographies about his life.
For World Book Day, we dressed up as words and spent the day reading and discussing our love for books. We thoroughly enjoyed going down to EYFS to read share stories with our buddies.
In Comprehension, we have used lots of role play skills to rehearse and perform poems and texts to the class.
Year 6 had an amazing day celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III which was filled with many exciting things.
We enjoyed a whole school lunch, followed by an incredible magician show. We also used recycled plastics to create our own art work based on the theme 'Sea Life of the British Isles', inspired by the artist Robert Bradford.
