Welcome to Mrs. Richardson’s 4th Grade Class!
I have been waiting all summer long to post this letter! I am so excited that your child is in my class, and am looking forward to another fantastic year of learning, growth, and fun. Please read all the way to the bottom and follow the directions given.
After you finish reading this, I would like to invite you all to explore my website. You'll be able to check out the curriculum, read about my classroom procedures and teaching philosophies, see our daily schedule, and find the page where I'll be posting my first Weekly Update blog post on Monday 8/22. I will share the Weekly Update each Monday, and it will contain information about curriculum, upcoming events, projects that are due, class parties, school events, etc. I know that you are all very busy, but I would like to ask you to spend some time on our class website. There are lots of words, and I wish that I could give you a TL;DR version, but reading everything will make things easier since you will know where to find all of the information required for a successful year. Please pay special attention to the following tabs: Curriculum, Schedules, and Classroom Expectations.
**After reading, please take a moment to respond to my email and share 3-5 interesting things about your student with their name in the subject line. I'll be sharing these things during the first few days of class as we all get to know one another. The students get so excited when it's their turn! This will let me know that we're getting one another's emails, which will be my primary means of communication with you throughout the school year. If there is a different email address that works better for contacting you, please let me know and update your contact info with the front office.
Back-to-School Night will be on Monday, August 15th. Please visit my classroom anytime from 5:30-7:00 PM in room 229. We are at the very end of the 2nd floor hallway in the A building. I am so excited to see both parents and students! It will be an open house-style meeting, so come for a brief visit, bring supplies, get some info, pick a desk, and chat. I have had a few parents ask if I have an Amazon wish list, so I’ve put together a list (below) for my classroom. Please know that I truly, genuinely appreciate all of the school supplies that you provide for your students, and that the wish list is completely optional.
If your student has attended ELA before, you might be familiar with using ClassDojo to contact teachers. This year the school is switching to a different platform for teacher-parent contact and recognizing students who are doing awesome things. This is a website/app called PBIS rewards. I will send a separate email by 8/15 with more details, and will also have more information available at Back-To-School Night.
If your student remembers their ELA google account, they are welcome to log in to our Google Classroom page using the link or code below. This will give them a little head start for the first week of school. If your student is new, or cannot remember, that’s just fine. We’ll take care of it when school begins!
I’m looking forward to a fantastic school year!
Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. I love hearing from parents and working together to find the best solutions for our children.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mariah Richardson
