Required Language Arts Homework: 20 minutes per day
Research shows that children need to read every day. One study shows that starting in kindergarten, if a student reads 20 minutes a day at home, they will encounter 1.8 million words per year. They will have read for 851 hours by 6th grade and on standardized tests, they will likely score better than 90% of their peers. I leave it up to parents and students to determine where their students’ time is best spent. Suggested homework is: personal reading or spelling/vocab practice. Of course, any extra time will only help students do better in language and in life. Try to keep it light and fun!
My class does 1 book report per semester, due in November and April. Details about each assignment will be sent out about a month in advance.
