4th grade is the year we learn all about Utah History! We learn about the 29 counties, we learn about our National Parks, we learn about the ancient Native American people that inhabited what is now Utah, as well as the 5 Native American Tribes who currently reside in Utah’s borders. We also learn about the Westward Expansion, the Golden Spike, Utah’s state song, the 3 geographical areas, and so much more! At the end of the 4th grade, the students are brimming with facts they've learned about our wonderful state! We are excited to have an online resource called Utah Studies Online this year. We hope our students will love it!
As part of our westward expansion unit, we will be discussing the historical influence of the Mormon pioneers on our state. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to me.
We also have several events throughout the year that relate to our social studies curriculum, including the 4th grade Mountain Man Rendezvous, and field trips to the Great Salt Lake and State Capitol Building. The students love these events and I am looking forward to doing them this year!
