Dress Code
Please make yourself familiar with the dress code. Students are expected to be in proper dress code, as set forth in ELA’s charter. Please understand that Administration holds me accountable for appropriate student attire, and will often conduct classroom checks to verify that this guideline is being followed. If a student is not in dress code, he or she will be given the option of calling home for appropriate attire or they may search through the community box in the office to find clothing that will work for the day. Here is a link to the dress code policy.
Toys
Toys should be left at home. If students are playing with toys or other items from home during instruction, I will give a warning and ask them to put the item in their backpack. If I see the item again, I will keep it in my desk until the end of the day. Repeat offenses will result in me keeping the toy until it is retrieved by a parent. Otherwise, it will be returned to them by the end of the year. Some students have brought toys from home to play with during recess. When this occurs, there is the chance that the toy could get lost or stolen, and this causes a disruption in instruction time (students crying, or asking to return to the playground to search for the object), so please keep the toys at home. Some students may use a “fidget” item to enable them to concentrate during the day. Fidgets are fine as long as they remain inside the desk, out of sight, so as not to distract their classmates.
Electronics
Please familiarize yourselves with ELA’s electronics policy. Students are expected to keep electronic devices powered off and inside their backpacks for the entire school day (including recess). If I see them out in class, I will keep them in my desk until the end of the day. If there is a situation in which you need to be able to contact your student quickly, please let me know and we can work out a solution.
