THE EMNRBS BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM HEADS TO CHINA

An amazing opportunity has been granted to a group of our students. Our boys basketball team has been invited to play in the Yaoxin Sports International High Schools Tournament 2023. We are honored to accept the invitation to this prestigious international event. The Yaoxin Sports Tournament will be a platform for young basketball players from around the world to showcase their skills, foster cultural exchange, and promote the spirit of sportsmanship. We sent them off in style by having a pep rally for the students who will be going on the trip. 

Our 1oth grade students had the opportunity to visit several schools recently They visited SUNY Maritime ST. Thomas Aquinas and St. Francis In Brooklyn. They enjoyed their first college trips and are eager to visit more. 

Students from the National Honor Society visited Birch Family Services for Read for the Record Day. EMNRBS students gave of their time to promote literacy and build relationships with community organizations, with the support of Mrs. Fraleigh who helped set up today's event. National Honor Society members read With Lots of Love by Jenny Torres Sanchez to students throughout the building as well as engaged in classroom activities, dance parties, and play time. 

NBA Office visit

EMNRBS students visited the NBA Headquarters Office got a tour of the offices. The students in the Business class presented their design ideas to the marketing team and received constructive feedback on their design and business plan. They also had a surprise guest come and talk with them...Adam Silver, the NBA Commissioner.

National Honor Society Induction 5/2/23

The inaugural induction ceremony for the New Renaissance Chapter of the National Honor Society at the Earl Monroe New Renaissace Basketball High School occured on Tuesday, May 2nd. 17 members were selected based on the virtues of scholarship, service, charater and leadership.

Inaugural College Trips to LIU- Brooklyn, Queens College and St. Francis

Jonathan Urena and Cliff Cooper

Jonathan and Cliff were accepted to Sound Thinking NYC Summer Intensive Program.  Sound Thinking NYC Summer Intensive is a free three-week long program that especially opens doors for students in high school to explore careers in the music industry. Sound Thinking NYC leverages the passion for music as the students explore how to turn that passion into a possible career. Jonathan and Cliff will be introduced to the varied opportunities and career paths available in NYC's thriving music industry - such as audio engineering, music production, sound design, and audio technology - directly from professionals in the business, all with a cohort of carefully selected, motivated fellow students. 

Quacey Gayle

Congratulations to Quacey! He was accepted into the 2023-24 Student Journalism Leaders Fellowship. Press Pass NYC’s free programs are all in service of helping New York City public schools start and sustain a successful school newspaper program in a comprehensive way. Unlike outside-school opportunities for individual students, Press Pass NYC’s focus is on creating journalistic value and opportunities for the entire school community, enabling schools to create a culture of appreciation for journalism and student voice through a school newspaper; training teachers to lead a credit-bearing course as well as advise a school newspaper program; and engaging students in authentic, project-based, community-centered learning that they would otherwise never experience. Quacey is Interested in studying writing and journalism in college so this Is a wonderful first step to help him follow his dream. 


Congratualtions to Yaeli Batista, Angelina Delacruz, Natalie Montalvo, Naimah Pearson and Kalia Ramos who were recently accepted to "Her Honor" mentoring program for the 2023-2024 school year!


The mission at Her Honor Mentoring is to provide unique learning opportunities and resources for young women. Her Honor Mentoring was developed by Nicole Sheindlin and Judith Sheindlin (aka, “Judge Judy”), as an innovative and pragmatic way to boost self-confidence in young women in the workplace and everyday life. Mentoring is our tool to bridge education and employment gaps. We connect the needs of our public education system with powerful resources in the business community.

 

This is a very prestigious program that these students were accepted into and part of a pilot program as Her Honor and Earl Monroe continue to develop their partnership. In addition, these female students will be able to earn $1,000 per semester as part of the program. 

Noelia Tavera and Miko Crosland

Noelia and Miko were accepted into the Health Professions Mentorship Program (HPMP) offered by the CUNY School of Medicine/Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program. The Health Professions Mentorship Program is for rising high school juniors thinking about a career in the health field. Careers like medicine, nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy, public health, and research are possible with a college degree in basic or biomedical sciences, social sciences, or specialized health sciences. Students will conduct a community based project in which they will take part in recognizing challenges, and developing solutions to health care problems in New York City. Students observe and discuss the social and economic determinants of health and disease and explore how different health care professionals address these issues to improve the health of communities. Congrats Noelia and Miko!!! 


Kyasia Kinsey

Kyasia is the winner of the Women's inspirational Writing Contest. Kyasia wrote a powerful essay about how Beyonce inspires women to be true to themselves and be the queens they were meant to be. 

Riccardo Lomanto

Riccardo attended the York College NASA STEM Cybersecurity Program Powered by AT&T for 8 weeks this spring. The program was designed to provide students who would not otherwise have access to the digital literacy, while opening the door to the possibilities in the rapidly growing industry of cybersecurity.  

The NASA STEM program has provided innovative education opportunities to more than 30,000 Queens students over the past two decades.  With cybersecurity career opportunities growing, AT&T supported this year’s effort to bring these critical foundational skills to the students.  Through curriculum, research, and ultimately student-created content, these young people learned about the rapidly growing careers in cybersecurity and how it is becoming the most important industries because it is essential to everyday digital life.  

Keyhan Schand

Keyhan received a full scholarship to the Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp. Here are some things that he will be doing...Reading from a Teleprompter, interviewing a former pro athlete or current broadcaster, making several presentations, calling the play-by-play of a Yankees game at iconic Yankee Stadium and taking a road trip to MetLife Stadium. He will be learning from multiple Emmy award winner Bruce Beck and his special guest lecturers, including top sportscasters and personalities in the New York Metropolitan Area. 

Jahmere Jackson

One of our amazing students, Jahmere Jackson, was accepted to participate in the Parson Scholar Program.  “The Parsons Scholars Program is a 2 ½ year college and career access program that centers people of color in the exploration of art and design”.  He was awarded a full scholarship for the program that covers the cost of seven studio courses in the Parsons Pre-College Academy and Summer Intensive Studies programs, six transferable college credits, art supplies, transportation to all programming, meals, field trips, guest speaker visits, SAT prep, and college guidance. We are so excited for Jahmere to participate in this program and can’t wait to see how he continues to evolve as an artist, designer, and entrepreneur.

Ashanti Brown, Janaiyah David, Coretta Mohammad

Three of our students were recently accepted into the Einstein Enrichment Program (EEP) . This program is part of a New York State-funded initiative called STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program), is an afterschool and summer enrichment program run through the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. EEP promotes the educational advancement of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students, encouraging them to pursue careers in health-related fields. EEP also engages their high-performing high school students in yearlong service-learning projects that apply scientific knowledge and skills to solve community health problems. 

Jonathan Urena

Jonathan will be attending the LIU Brooklyn Roc Nation Music Technology Program this summer. While at the Music Technology Academy, participants jump right into the recording studio to experiment with different styles, sounds, samples, beats, and instruments. Daily interactive workshops cultivate a combination of digital music theory, business savvy, and technology skills. Participants will learn the intricacies of the industry’s leading Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), Ableton Live, and leave with a greater understanding of how to record, process, and publish music like professionals. 

Jonathan Ortiz

Jonathan will be participating in the JetBlue Foundation Ace Academy. The ACE Academy is a multi-day event for middle and high school students that have a general interest in learning about aviation. The goal of ACE Academy is to expose students to the many different careers in aviation. We also aim to show them the practical application of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. By the end of the program, we hope that the participants will have a wider horizon of the many career opportunities available to them. We challenge our students to strive for excellence.

One Love Foundation: Advocate for relationship health education summit

Between April 22nd - 25th both selected scholars will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to our nation's capital to attend the non-profit's summit about healthy relationships and relation abuse prevention.

One Love empowers young people with the tools and resources they need to see the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and bring life-saving prevention education to their communities.   

Janaiyah David

Janaiyah will be attending the Relevé program April 8th and 9th hosted by Columbia University's Sabor Latin Dance Troupe. This program accepts high school students from across NYC and surrounding areas for a weekend of college workshops, dance, music, and fun! Students will spend the weekend on Columbia's campus with members of Sabor participating in Latin/Hip-Hop dance workshops, experiencing Columbia's campus life, attending College accessibility events with admissions and financial aid offices, and much more! The accepted students are hosted and entertained by members of the team who will serve as mentors to questions the students might have concerning college life and the application process.

Fashion Club Trip to FIT


The students began the day with a student led tour starting with one of the college dorms. They proceeded through the buildings greeting students and faculty, as we saw classrooms, the library, the gym and of course the artwork. The trip closed with a visit to the school’s renown museum where they experienced some of the fashions of the hip hop culture in the 80s and 90s.


The students in The Fashion Club enjoyed the experience of shopping in one of Brooklyn’s largest vintage and thrift shops, where we shopped and got inspiration for our upcoming fashion show in June!

SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University visit EMNRBS

Suny Oswego and Syracuse University visited our school this past week and met with all the students to discuss colleges, majors, dorm living, FA, etc. 

Microsoft Office Headquarters E-Sports trip

Several of our studentsvisited the Microsoft Office and toured the building, learned about how augmented reality can connect to basketball, observed a content creation studio, met a parent of a professional E-sports player, got exposed to e sports scholarship opportunities, competed in some of the latest games in the Microsoft streaming center and got to sit a two million dollar car.
