West Ridge Middle School
Incoming 6th Grade Summer Reading
2026-27 School Year
Hello, Incoming Wildcats!
The West Ridge ELA department is dedicated to creating and maintaining a community of readers. Our summer reading program promotes literacy, critical thinking skills, rigor, and empathy. Over the summer, we would like incoming 6th graders to read a novel of their choice from the 2026 Lone Star Reading List. These lists are developed yearly by public and school librarians across Texas from the Young Adult Round Table. The purpose of the lists is to encourage students in grades 6, 7, and 8 to explore a wide variety of genres in current books. West Ridge encourages all students to read widely to grow vocabulary, improve writing, build SEL skills, bring inspiration, and boost creativity.*
Your Assignment:
Read a novel of your choice from the 2026 Lone Star Reading List.
Click on the link above to view the annotated book list (which includes the title, author, and a brief description).
Consider novel descriptions for interests and appropriateness. You can use Common Sense Media to help you with this.
Students should finish reading their book (hardcopy, ebook, or audiobook) by the first day of school, August 13, 2026.
