ACADEMIC AND CAREER BASED EDUCATION

Eanes Independent School District offers academic as well as career and technical education programs. Admission to these programs is based on state guidelines, Texas Education Agency requirements, grade level course prerequisites, and course requests.

It is policy of Eanes ISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap in its academic and vocational programs, services, or activities as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES

Students determined eligible for specialized instruction services by an Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee may be served through classes identified in the Course Selection Booklet as "Special Education." For further information, please contact the Special Education Department.

GIFTED AND TALENTED (GT)

The focus of the GT program is to serve students who have instructional needs due to exceptional potential in both intellectual and creative abilities. If you are new to the district or wish to be considered for the program, a formal assessment is required by EISD. This takes place at the beginning of each year. GT students will be served through the social studies classes.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT COURSES

All high school credit courses will be reflected on the high school transcript but will not be calculated in the grade point average.

SUMMER SCHOOL

If a student does not pass a core class, they will need to take the course in summer school and pass with a 70 or higher.

P.E. CREDITS

A student must earn the state-required credit for P.E., which is 2 credits.  Students in 6th grade will take one year of PE, which is equivalent in 1 credit. Students will be required to fulfill the other 1 credit (2 semesters worth) through P.E., athletics, or P.E. Pals. Students who wish to apply for a PE Waiver should complete the PE Waiver Request form within the first two weeks of a semester.

PE WAIVER

A PE waiver is a possible option for students who receive training in a sports activity other than those offered at WRMS.  A minimum of 5 hours of training per week is required in order to be considered for approval (90 hours per semester).  Applications are required and may be accessed through the PE Waiver link.  Approval requires a letter from the participating agency documenting the information on the PE Waiver application.  Attendance logs are required and may be accessed at the same link. PE Credit will be awarded once an attendance log documenting 90 hours of activity has been submitted and approved. Please note that students enrolled in Athletics or PE are not eligible for a PE Waiver.

MUSIC COURSES FOR 6TH GRADE

6th grade students must complete both the fall and spring semester of the same music course (band, choir, or orchestra). Students may not combine the first semester of one music course with the second semester of another music course.

HONORS COURSES

West Ridge only offers Honors courses in Math and English. If a student decides to enroll in an Honors course, they must demonstrate these characteristics: self-motivated, manages time well, strong study skills, emotional maturity when frustrated, perseverance when challenged, self-reflective over their own work, and a desire to work hard and to go deeper into their learning.

WORLD-LANGUAGES

Each semester in World Languages must be successfully completed to remain in the course and receive one high school credit.  A minimum of 2 full credits in the SAME language are required for high school graduation.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT COURSES

All high school credit courses will be reflected on the high school transcript but will not be calculated in the grade point average.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Schedule changes will be considered only for incorrect class placement, instructional needs, or to balance class size.  A schedule change request should be submitted using the Google Form in August and September or by email after September to the student’s counselor.  Requests for electives other than those requested as first choice or an alternate will not be considered.
