MATH 6
Math 6 is an on-grade level mathematics course guided by the Grade 6 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The primary focus areas of this math course is to concentrate on number and operations; proportionality; expressions, equations &relationships; and measurement & data. Students will become fluent in integer operations and multiplying and dividing positive rational numbers. Mental math and estimation are stressed, and calculators are utilized to some extent.
MATH 6 ACCELERATED
Prerequisite: Math 5 and 40% Percentile Ranking on Math 5 STAAR
In the Accelerated Math class, students will progress through the curriculum at a faster pace. By the end of the year, they will have learned all of the 6th Grade Math state standards, (TEKS), and approximately half of the 7th grade TEKS. 7th grade Accelerated Math covers the remaining 7th grade TEKS and all of the 8th grade TEKS. This allows students to take Honors Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 in 8th grade for high school credit. Accelerated students will take the 6th Grade Math STAAR test.
MATH 7
Math 7 is an on-grade level mathematics course guided by the Grade 7 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The primary focus areas in Grade 7 are number and operations; proportionality; expressions, equations, and relationships; and measurement and data. Students will become fluent in all operations of rational numbers. There is emphasis on algebra readiness skills to prepare for Math 8.
MATH 7/8
Prerequisite: Math 6, Math 6 Honors or Math ⅚
Math 7/8 is a compacted math course where students will cover all the math TEKS for Math 7 and Math 8. The course will focus on areas including numbers and operations; proportionality; expressions, equations, and relationships; and measurement and data. Students use concepts, algorithms, and properties of real and rational numbers to explore mathematical relationships to describe increasingly complex situations and connect multiple representations of relationships. Successful completion of this sequence will prepare for entry into Algebra I or Algebra I Honors. Students are required to maintain an 80% average or higher at the end of all grade checks (Progress reports and Report Cards).
MATH 8
Math 8 is an on-grade level mathematics course guided by the Grade 8 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The primary focal areas of this math course are proportionality; expressions, equations, relationships, and foundations of functions; and measurement and data. The graphing calculator is introduced and used throughout the course.
MATH 8 ACCELERATED
Prerequisite: Math 6 Accelerated
In the Accelerated Math class, students will progress through the curriculum at a faster pace. By the end of the year, they will have learned the second half of the 7th Grade Math state standards (TEKS) - the first half having been covered in Accelerated 6th Grade Math. They will then cover the entire set of 8th-grade TEKS, preparing them to move on to Honors Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 in 8th grade for high school credit. To enroll in Accelerated 7th Grade Math, students must have taken Math 6 Accelerated the previous year. Accelerated students will take the 8th Grade Math STAAR test.
ALGEBRA I
This course emphasizes the development of skills, techniques and applications that deal with number relations, linear equations, formulas, polynomials, graphing, systems of equations, factoring, rational expressions, data analysis, quadratic, and exponential functions. Students will learn the skills associated with the mathematical process TEKS: problem-solving, appropriate use of tools, mathematical communication, multiple representations, reasoning, proof, and justification. Successful completion of this sequence will prepare students for entry into a geometry course. Note: Graphing calculator required; TI 83/84+ is used as the instructional tool is most classes.
ALGEBRA I Honors
Honors math sequence focuses on teaching mathematical skills and concepts in a problem-solving environment.
GEOMETRY Honors
The Honors math sequence focuses on teaching mathematical skills and concepts in a problem-solving environment. This course deals with sets of points and related properties. Sets studied include lines, angles, polygons, circles, planes and surfaces of geometric solids such as pyramids, cones, cylinders and spheres. This sequence emphasizes systematic approaches to and processes for proving and applying theorems. Algebra is utilized extensively during the second semester. Students will learn the skills associated with the mathematical process TEKS: problem-solving, appropriate use of tools, mathematical communication, multiple representations, reasoning, proof, and justification. Successful completion of this sequence prepares the students for entry into an Algebra II course.
Algebra ll Honors
This course emphasizes the skills, concepts, and underlying mathematical foundations of advanced algebra. Students study polynomial, logarithmic, and exponential functions. Additional topics include the complex number system, sequences and series, matrices, systems of equations, rational functions, radical functions, and inverse functions. Students will learn the skills associated with the mathematical process TEKS: problem-solving, appropriate use of tools, mathemati-cal communication, multiple representations, reasoning, proof, and justification. Completion of this course prepares the student for entry into a Pre-Calculus course. The honors sequence focuses on application of concepts in a problem-solving environment. Strong Algebra skills are essential building blocks for a deeper dive into Algebraic concepts.
