In Latin I, you started your journey into the realm of the Classics. Now, you will have a year to hone your skills and build your knowledge-base to prepare you for the more advanced language quests that await in Latin III Honors and beyond. Everyone who passes Latin II will be ready for the next level, and we hope you will accept the challenge. On your journey through the classics, you will gain many relevant skills and insights for high school & beyond.
You also have the unique opportunity to connect, compete, and network with other scholars -locally, statewide, nationally, & globally- through membership in The Westlake High School Latin Club and the Junior Classical League. The Westlake High School Latin Club is how students access the National Latin Exam and the National Latin Honor Society, and it is an academic club membership that really makes a student stand out. Meetings are usually only attended by club officers, and everything the club does is by invitation for its members- never a requirement. We hope everyone will join Latin Club, but membership is optional.
We are hosting Area F at Westlake again this year, so we will need all hands on deck and as many volunteers as we can get! Parent help is needed for a variety of things, and students are needed as runners and everything else. You will get a golden ticket for each shift you (and/or your parent) help out. Read more about it and sign up to help soon...

a Latin binder/organizer (pick what works best for you) for all distributed print materials & notes
paper, pens & pencils, and a red pen/cil for correcting for your personal use
2 boxes of Kleenex (pretty please, bring 2 to class @ the start of each semester)
Suggested: colorful highlighters (yellow, pink, green, blue, orange, purple) for your personal use
Suggested: dry erase marker(s) for your personal use on the hanging whiteboards
Optional: I keep an Amazon wishlist for extras for the classroom here
At times, other supplies like markers, craft supplies, etc. may also be required and advance notice will be given in class for anything that I cannot supply for the class. Certain Apps and Home Screen “Links” on your iPad may also be required, as needed.
Students should also carry a charging cable for their use in the available classroom charging stations. There are working cables at every station at the beginning of the year, but they tend to break from improper handling and sometimes go missing, so... always best to carry one so that you don't run out of power.
Our week's work is posted in a hyperlinked google doc - called, the Latin II Lesson Calendar - linked here. This is a living document that will be updated as changes occur throughout the year. All changes will also be announced in class and updated on the side board.
The Lesson Calendar lists what we do in class every day, quizzes and tests, projects, homework, etc. and also includes schedule details like Pep Rallies, AP Testing Days, No Homework Nights, etc. so it is a pretty useful resource. Assignments should also appear on the google calendars generated by google classroom below. There is a different calendar for each class period because there are often little variants in assignments between the two periods caused by absences, fire drills, etc.
Westlake High School utilizes Google Classroom to share resources, most assignments, and assessment preparation materials. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work. They may invite their parents to join through Parent Access.
Join codes will be given out in class and are not published to keep them secure.
