In Latin I, you adventure into the realm of the Classics. Not only will you read, speak, & write in Latin, you will also be introduced to the history, mythology, politics, geography, & culture of the ancient world! By the end of Latin I, you will be well-prepared for Latin II.
You also have the unique opportunity to connect, compete, and network with other scholars, locally & globally, through membership in the Westlake Latin Club and the Junior Classical League -which is highly encouraged. With all that you will acquire on your journey through the classics, you will gain many invaluable & relevant skills and insights for your journey through high school & beyond.
We are funding our scholarships through working Concessions at the Football games (Home and Away sides) again this year, so we will need all hands on deck and as many volunteers as we can get! Parent help is needed for registers, and students are needed as runners and everything else. It is an opportunity to fund our scholarships AND you will get a golden ticket for each shift you (and your parents) work to help out. Read more about it and sign up to help in the club's google classroom.
Our week's work is written on the side board in the classroom and posted in the Latin 1 Lesson Calendar doc - is linked here. This is a living document that will be updated as we go and as changes occur through out the semester, and all changes will be announced in class and updated on the side board as well.
The Lesson Calendar lists what we do in class every day (warm ups, class work, etc.), when we have quizzes and tests, when we have projects, what the homework is, and it also includes schedule details like Pep Rallies, State/AP Testing Days, Early Release Days, Exam Schedules, and No Homework nights, etc. so it is a pretty useful resource.

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
