Eagle Pass ISD Pass/Fail Grade Option

Eagle Pass ISD allows high school students to take eligible Advanced Courses (Pre-AP, AP, or Dual Credit) on a Pass/Fail (P/F) basis rather than receiving a standard numerical grade.

Core Rules & GPA Impact

• GPA Inclusion: Numerical grades are calculated into your GPA and class rank. Pass/Fail grades grant course credit if passed, but are excluded from GPA and class rank calculations.

• Binding Decision: Once you commit to the Pass/Fail option, the decision is final for the entire duration of the course. You cannot switch back to a numerical grade.

• Failing Risk: If a student earns an "F" for any single nine-week grading period on their report card, they automatically receive an "F" as their final semester/course grade.

Eligibility Requirements 

An "Advanced Course" qualifies for Pass/Fail grading only if it is taken after all state and local graduation requirements in that specific subject area have already been met (e.g., taking AP Pre-Calculus as a fifth math credit after completing the required four math courses).

Deadlines & Required Steps

1. Consult Your Counselor: Verify that your specific course meets the eligibility criteria and obtain the official Pass/Fail Grade Agreement form.

2. Collect Signatures: The agreement must be signed by the student, parent/guardian, and class teacher.

3. Submit on Time: Return the signed form to your campus counseling department by the strict deadline:

  • Spring Semester: 5th Friday of the term

  • Summer Sessions: 3rd class day
