Our Scholarships

Aaron Eilerts Memorial Scholarship

The Aaron Eilerts Memorial Scholarship is given to honor the memory of a special young man who lived his live in service to others. Aaron Eilerts was committed to making this world a better place through acts of kindness.

Each year students and staff members at Robert Blue Middle School remember Aaron's love for others by participating in acts of volunteerism on Aaron Eilerts Day of Service and Giving. Robert Blue students carry on Aaron's traditions by sewing pillowcases for patients as well as participating in new acts of service inspired by Aaron.

This scholarship was created by students and staff at Robert Blue who have begun fundraising efforts to support this scholarship and Aaron's friends and family members.


Alfred A. Baird Memorial

This scholarship is given in memory of Alfred A. Baird, former teacher and administrator at Eagle Grove Schools. It will be given to a student wishing to pursue a degree in education.


Anne Chiquitucto Scholarship

This scholarship is given in honor of a person who embodies the spirit of the phrase "Be All You Can Be."

From the age of four, Anne Chiquitucto said she was going to join the United States Army when she grew up. However, in 2nd grade, an opportunity to do a school research project on Clara Barton led Anne to add the idea of becoming a nurse to her future career goals. After graduating from Prince George High School in Virginia, Anne enlisted in the United States Army serving as an airborne combat medic. At the end of Anne's four year enlistment, she enrolled in college full time to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

After graduating from college, Anne's career goals merged when she became a nurse in the United States Army. Anne has been serving the medical needs of soldiers and their families since 1995. Some of her duty stations include postings in South Korea, Germany, Ft. Drum, New York, and Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.

The Anne Chiquitucto Scholarship is given to inspire Eagle Grove High School graduates to work hard to make their dreams come true.


Askvig-Kvale Scholarship

This scholarship is given from the estate of Kenneth J. Anderson, a graduate from the Eagle Grove High School Class of 1955. One of Mr. Anderson's hobbies was that of vintage cars. He had a collection of different cars and realized they needed the care of skilled automotive technicians. Therefore, one of his requirements for this scholarship is that it goes to a graduate that will be pursuing a career in the automotive field -- mechanic or body.


Beta Sigma Phi

The Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship is given to a student who will be attending Iowa Central Community College.


Bruce Brekke Memorial

This scholarship is funded in memory of Bruce Brekke by his family. Bruce was killed in an automobile accident while a student at Eagle Grove High School.


C. W. Dunn Memorial

Cec Dunn loved Eagle Grove and strongly believed in education. The self-made son of an auto-body repairman, he and his wife Rusty first moved to Eagle Grove in 1949 when he took a position with Brenton State Bank. He subsequently began working for Security Savings Bank and eventually acquired majority ownership of it. His long and distinguished banking career also included an appointment by Governor Ray as Superintendent of the Iowa Department of Banking. Cec and Rusty's sons were all educated in Eagle Grove Community Schools. Mike, Marty, and Scott have lovingly established this memorial endowment striving to honor their parent's life-long commitment to the value of education, to the importance of achievement, and Eagle Grove's unique value as a place of growth, learning, and excellence.


Darcia Christensen Memorial

This scholarship is funded in memory of Darcia Christensen by her son, James.


Duane Halverson Memorial Scholarship

Duane Halverson graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1963. After graduation he went on to further his education in the business profession. He cherished the education he received from the Eagle Grove Schools and wanted to give back to help graduating seniors from Eagle Grove High School pursue their educational goals. The recipient must seek a profession within agriculture or a business field.


Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars

A series of general scholarships are sponsored each year by Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars. These scholarships are made possible by the generous contributions of our local community and businesses.


Eagle Grove Country Club

The Eagle Grove Country Club sponsors a scholarship to a graduating senior from Eagle Grove High School. One of the requirements is that the graduating senior participated on either the girls or boys golf team.


Eagle Grove High School Class of 1961

The Class of 1961 created a scholarship to go to a relative of a classmate or to a student in need.


Eagle Grove High School Class of 1965

The Eagle Grove High School Class of 1965 sponsors a scholarship to a graduating senior.


Eagle Grove High School Class of 1967

The Eagle Grove High School Class of 1967 created two scholarships that will start with graduates of the Class of 2021. One scholarship will be awarded to a student attending a community college. The second will be awarded to a student attending any accredited college/university.


Eagle Spirit of '76 Scholarship

The Eagle Grove High School Class of 1976 challenged each other to donate $76 each year to award a scholarship to a graduating member of Eagle Grove High School. Their first scholarship will be given to a member of the class of 2022.


Eddie & Charlotte Amosson Memorial

Edwin Amosson (1916-1988) was born in Boone Township of Wright County, Iowa, and Charlotte (1923-2000) grew up in Clarion, Iowa. Edwin attended school in Boone Township and Charlotte graduated from Clarion High School. The couples was united in marriage in 1941 and lived and farmed in the Eagle Grove/Clarion area. Eddie was engaged in farming all his working life until he retired in 1981. He died in 1988 after suffering a heart attack. Charlotte was a farm wife and mother and was a member of the Evangelical Church in Eagle Grove where she was very active in church projects and was a member of Miriam Circle. They were firm believers in higher education and set these scholarships up to help the graduates of Eagle Grove High School. One of the requirements for receiving this scholarship is for the recipient to pursue a degree in agriculture or business.


Ellen Elkin Memorial

The family of Ellen Elkin set up this scholarship in her memory. One of the requirements to earn this scholarship is that the graduate must be pursuing a degree in education.


Ethel Fern Teems Martin Memorial

Ethel Martin (1908-1978) attended Eagle Grove High School, but never graduated. She married and became a wife and mother at a very young age. As her family grew, her dream was for her children to strive to be the best they could be. So Mrs. Martin, by her lifestyle, showed the work ethic that would best provide for her children. Her eight children and grandchildren are living life to the best of their abilities, just as she had wished. John Martin set up this endowed scholarship with Eagle Grove Dollars for Scholars in memory of his mother. It is the wish of John Martin that the recipient of this scholarship also strive to be the best he or she can be.

One of the requirements for this scholarship is that it be awarded to a graduate of Eagle Grove High School who will be attending a 4 year public university/college. Another part of this endowment is that a scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Eagle Grove High School who will be attending a public community college.

First State Bank/Town & Country Insurance supports Eagle Grove High School graduates by awarding a scholarship through Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars.


Giving Tuesday Scholarship

This scholarship was created by the generosity of individuals across the country who donated money on Giving Tuesday 2020 to create a scholarship funded in just one day with Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who gave to help support an Eagle Grove graduates academic future.


Hazel Watson Bilek/Mildred Watson Tollefson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was funded through the estate of Barbara Bilek Rodberg. Barbara Bilek graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1956 and also Drake University. One of her stipulations is that the student must attend Drake University.


H. R. Derscheid Memorial

Harley Roger Derscheid (1891-1987) was born on his grandfather's farm two and a half miles southwest of Eagle Grove. He attended the neighborhood school and later attended what is now Iowa State University in Ames. After the first World War, he and his brother, Glen, began farming. Harley stayed active in farming until his late 80's. At the age of 90 years, he moved into Eagle Grove and lived there until his death in 1987.


H. W. Paine Memorial

Harry Paine (1890-1976) attended Eagle Grove Community Schools graduating in 1908. He graduated from Iowa State University. He operated the Smith and Paine Buick Agency for eight years. For two years, he taught math and auto mechanics at Owatonna High School in Minnesota. Then he taught school auto mechanics in Milwaukee. From there, he went to the University of Toledo where he served as the head of the Vocational Educational Department from January 1928 to February 1942. He also served as the head of the Vocational Educational Department of the University of Cincinnati for ten years. In 1952, he served with the Foreign Service as an Educational Specialist, retiring from this position in 1962. For two years, he was a math professor at the University of Maryland, the Eastern Shore, Division at Princess Anne before retiring. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, the Phi Kappa Phi, and the Kappa Delta Phi. Harry Paine was life member of the American Vocational Association.


Jay and Alice Legvold Endowed Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Legvold were active farmers in the Eagle Grove/Vincent area. Education was always at the top of their list. It is with honor that their children are able to pursue the memory of their parents with a scholarship to a deserving young person from EGHS.

There are several requirements to receive this scholarship. Including:

  • Student must be majoring in Agriculture and Related Sciences OR Engineering and Engineering Technologies OR Education.

  • Student must attend Iowa State University.


Jordan-Skogerboe Scholarship

This scholarship is given from the estate of Kenneth J. Anderson, a graduate from the Eagle Grove High School Class of 1955. During Mr. Anderson's illness, he was extremely grateful of the nursing care he received. So much so that he wanted to remember a couple of his favorite nurses in a scholarship; therefore, the name of the Jordan-Skogerboe Scholarship. One of the requirements of this scholarship is that the graduate pursue further education in the nursing or medical fields.


Kenneth J. Anderson Memorial

This scholarship is given from the estate of Kenneth J. Anderson, a graduate from the Eagle Grove High School Class of 1955. After graduation, Mr. Anderson pursued a career in engineering. Therefore, this scholarship in his name will go to a graduate pursuing a career in engineering.


Kent Gearhart Memorial

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Kent Gearhart by his friends and family to a Class of 2021 graduate.


Mabel Marie Bernard Memorial

This scholarship is given in memory of Mabel Bernard. Two scholarships will be awarded to recipients who plan to attend a community college or vocational school to study Liberal Arts, Education, Nursing, or the Trades.

Margaret Rankin Memorial

Margaret Rankin (1898-1978) attended Eagle Grove Sacred Heart grade and junior high school before attending and graduating from Eagle Grove High School. She started work at the Eagle Grove Eagle in 1918 and was known for her "This Corner Has Heard" and "Rotary Ann Retirement Home" columns. Margaret was a member of the Iowa Press Columnists, was active in the Iowa Press Women's organization and served as its president in 1949. Beginning in World War I, she was active in the American Red Cross and maintained an interested in the movement after the war.

In 1972, Margaret Rankin was presented the "50 Year Plaque" by the Iowa Press Association in recognition of at least 50 years of faithful service to the newspaper profession. Margaret was a member of the Women's Club and served as president, a member of the A Sharp Music Club, secretary of the Eagle Grove Country Club, and was named outstanding woman of the year by Beta Sigma Phi of which she became an honorary member. Margaret died in 1978 from the effects of cancer.


Mary Helen Prehm Memorial

Mary Helen Prehm (1903-1989) received her education in the Eagle Grove School system, graduating in 1921. She attended Drake University in Des Moines for two years before receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She also took summer courses at Cornell College and the University of Maine. She then returned to Drake University for the completion of her education. While at Drake, she received her Masters of Arts degree in education. She taught in elementary schools in Clarion, Emmetsburg, Mason City, and Des Moines. Mary retired after teaching in the Des Moines School District. Her memberships included the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and the honorary educational sororities of Delta Kappa Gamma and Pi Lambda Theta.


Mary Voigt Halverson Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student entering the nursing or medical field.


Melvin Lehman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given in memory of Melvin Lehman to an Eagle Grove graduate who will be attending Iowa Central Community College.


Our Foundation for the Future

This scholarship is made possible by Our Foundation for the Future. It is their wish that this scholarship is given to someone who has been involved in community service not just for Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars, but other services as well. It is their wish that this scholarship will ease the financial burden of the student and family. Positive character traits play an important role in this scholarship as well.


PEO Sisterhood Chapter EJ

PEO is a women's organization with primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students desiring to attend college. Headquarters are in Des Moines, Iowa, with individual chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, including our local Eagle Grove Chapter. We are "Women helping Women" to achieve their highest educational goals.


Roger Toillion Memorial

The family of Roger Toillion sponsors a scholarship in his memory. Roger graduated with the Eagle Grove High School class of 1956. He was a local businessman in the community.


Rotary Club of Eagle Grove

The local Rotary Club awards a scholarship to a graduating senior pursuing a career in the nursing or medical fields.


Rowan Schultz Memorial

The family of Rowan Schultz awards this scholarship to a graduating senior of Eagle Grove High School in his memory.


Sandy Hansch Michelson Scholarship

This scholarship is being given in Sandy's memory by several of her close classmates. Sandy had a career in journalism. She had a column that we published weekly in The Messenger for many years. The desire of her friends is that this scholarship is to go to someone who entering the field of journalism. If no one is entering that field that they desire that the scholarship go to someone who has done good for others.

Several Eagle Grove Area Dollars for Scholars scholarships are made possible by generous contributions of the Stablish Foundation.


Virgil & Rachel Umthun

This scholarship is given to support a graduating senior of Eagle Grove High School in that student's pursuit of higher education.


Walter "Duke" & Betty Moffitt Memorial

The family of Walter "Duke" and Betty Moffitt sponsor a scholarship to a graduating senior of Eagle Grove High School.

Walter "Duke" graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1941. Betty (Pressler) graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1938. They lived most of their lives in Eagle Grove. Their children, Dr. Mike (EGHS Class of 1963) and Christy (EGHS Class of 1964), were also graduates of Eagle Grove High School.

Extra curricular activities, grades, and community service are a few of the requirements for this scholarship.


Walter & Olga McCormick Memorial

This scholarship given in memory of Walter and Olga McCormick. Walter was born in Manchester, Iowa, and Olga was born near Holmes, Iowa.


Waterworth Memorial

This scholarship is given in memory of Jim and Lois Waterworth. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned home to Easton, Illinois, and farmed until his retirement. Lois served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Jim and Lois leave behind a legacy of service which continues to inspire their grandchildren to make a difference in the world.
