Action in PYP : Jewellery Designing
In Grade 1, students had the exciting opportunity to explore their creativity through jewellery design. Guided by their art teacher, Ms. Shravani, the students learned to craft unique and colourful jewellery pieces, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The activity provided a perfect platform for them to express their artistic abilities while developing their fine motor skills.
Ms. Shravani introduced the students to different materials, such as beads, strings, and decorative charms. She demonstrated various techniques for stringing the beads, creating patterns, and adding embellishments to enhance the designs. The children were encouraged to experiment with different colours and shapes, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflected their personal style.
Throughout the activity, the students worked both individually and in pairs, sharing ideas and helping each other along the way. This collaborative aspect fostered teamwork and allowed the students to learn from one another’s creative approaches. As they worked, they also learned about symmetry, balance, and colour coordination, important skills in jewellery making.

Toy Donation
At DY Patil International school, Worli, as a service programme the grade 1 learners chose to do a toy donation drive. The learners were deeply touched by seeing kids deprived of toys, having no roof above their heads, this made them realize how lucky they are to have what they have, and be who they are now. That’s when they decided to make a change and be grateful for what they have. This is where the Robin Hood NGO takes place. Robin Hood NGO is a Non-Governmental Organization which helps underprivileged children by providing their basic needs such as food, water, shelter education and gives them the opportunity to live as freely as we do. That is how grade 1 came across Robin Hood NGO.
On the culmination day, they handed over the toys to the NGOs representatives. Through this drive, the Grade 1 learners were able to be the secret Santa for the underprivileged children under the shelter of Robin Hood NGO. They made sure that the toys that they donated and collected from others were in good condition and were enjoyable by the kids. They also made sure to spread awareness throughout the school majorly in PYP.
Following the path of Dy Patil’s mission for being lifelong learners, Grade 1 continued to nurture the learner profiles caring, reflective and open minded towards the community.
