D-Y Elementary Schools, St. Pius X School

and Waypoint Academy

D-Y Elementary schools and St. Pius X School do not currently have school resource officers assigned to them on a regular basis. All schools receive a twice daily visit by uniformed officers in addition to whatever random patrols occur during the day. SROs of the D-Y Police Services Unit provide assistance to these schools on an as-needed basis. Principals can access a full spectrum of police services from the SROs of the D-Y Police Services Unit whenever they need to. In an effort to enhance those services we have reconstituted the Adopt-A-School squad.

The Adopt-A-School squad associates a designated police officer to a particular school to provide additional services on a drop-in or on-call basis. Members of the Adopt-A-School squad are assigned fulltime to uniformed patrol. These officers are also fully trained, and POST certified as school resource officers. Adopt-A-School officers fill-in for our fulltime SROs on occasions of absence. We have harnessed this specialized training, skillset and the ownership that these officers feel toward their schools to fill the gap and enhance the services that we are able to provide to those schools. Adopt-A-School provides a familiar face and allows us to build relationships and strengthen our partnerships with schools that do not currently have full-time SROs assigned. 

Waypoint Academy is part of the Cape Cod Collaborative. Our unit is providing support in the development of emergency management and preparedness.
