D-Y Elementary schools and St. Pius X School do not have school resource officers assigned to them on a regular basis. All schools receive a twice daily visit by uniformed officers in addition to random foot patrols of the interior of the building during the day. SROs of the D-Y Police Services Unit provide assistance to these schools on an as-needed basis. Principals can access a full spectrum of police services whenever they need to from the full-time SROs of the D-Y Police Services Unit.
The Adopt-A-School squad associates a specific police officer to a particular school to provide services on a drop-in or on-call basis. Adopt-A-School officers are fully trained and POST certified school resource officer assigned to patrol duties and occasionally fill in for our full-time SROs when needed. Adopt-A-School provides a familiar face and allows us to build relationships and strengthen our partnerships with schools that do not have full-time SROs assigned.
